What grade would you give the Marvel Cinematic Universe? (Ever-Changing Question)

It looks like they wanted her powers to be connected to Carol/Capt. Marvels so they could do the whole thing with them and Monica/Photon (or whatever they're using for her superhero name) switching places when they use their powers.

I think it's partly that, partly that they wanted something more novel than shapeshifting/stretching powers. Also, I suspect that having her powers tied to an alien artifact is meant to tie in eventually with Shang-Chi's Ten Rings, sharing some common origin that will eventually come out and connect to other movies as well.

True but they could've still connected her to the bangles even with her comics powers
 
Go ahead, Marvel. Fuck up the Kang saga, one of the few things you have going on - if not the only thing - that I still remotely care about.
Case in point: the “Blade” reboot. With Mahershala Ali signed on for the eponymous role of a vampire, things looked promising for a 2023 release date. But the project has gone through at least five writers, two directors and one shutdown six weeks before production. One person familiar with the script permutations says the story at one point morphed into a narrative led by women and filled with life lessons.

For an article that's clearly trying to position itself as some kind of revelatory bombshell, it doesn't actually report anything new. Sure, it's look at all of the issues (and potential issues yet to play out) and does demonstrate there might be some serious underlying issues at Marvel, but nothing in it is surprising.

The only thing I find truly concerning is how VFX personnel are being overworked and underpaid. That's something that needs to be directly addressed by Marvel with serious changes and not some quick PR bandage that can be swept under the rug.

The Jonathan Major situation is definitely a thorny issue and one that they need to be transparent about, but ultimately, I think the best course of action is pretty to recast. They've done it before and they have a built-in mechanism to handle it (if they even address which they don't necessarily need to do). Yes, they've invested a lot of time and money on Majors but they can and probably should shift gears to another actor of another caliber.

We've already gone over and over and over about The Marvels box office projections and I don't really care to go over it yet again. All that matters to me is whether I'll enjoy the film and everything I've seen so far highly suggests that I will.

At the end, despite all of this, what matters to me is whether I enjoy the films and shows, which I have to varying degrees with the sole exception of Secret Invasion.

But, I suppose the idea of Rome burning makes for an entertaining headline.

Well, we saw thousands of Kang variants in the Quantumania post-credits scene and they all looked like Majors. But of course, this is theater. They already recast Rhodey, Bruce, Thunderbolt Ross (upcoming), etc. There doesn't need to be an in-story excuse for a change of performers.

Given Marvel has begun fixing VFX in post, I could easily see a reshoot of that final Quantumania scene with whoever they choose for a recast.

I'm actually excited by the idea of an MCU film with a $100 million budget! I think the MCU really needs to break out of the idea that every film needs to be a blockbuster or its a failure. Even if the film quality held up, too many studios are chasing the "blockbuster only" model of moviemaking now, but there's typically only been space for a half dozen a year at most, meaning it's setting everyone up for catastrophic failures. Slashing the movie budget in half (or more) is a great way to ensure the film will be profitable even if it had mid-level ticket sales (and lets be clear, an R-rated, horror-themed MCU film is never gonna do as well as their more family-friendly PG-13 stuff).

We've also seen Loki variants played by Tom Hiddleston and Loki variants played by a black man, a woman and a literal alligator.

I agree that a recast never 'needs' to be explained in story, but this one already is anyway regardless of how many Kang variants we saw with Majors' face on them. The new Kang just happens to be the one in a million that doesn't look like that.

I realize that, but that series of...bad decisions...is in the past.

I really wish that they would pivot the Blade movie into a full-fledged Midnight Suns, with Moon Knight, Werewolf By Night, Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing, etc. All the bits are lying on the floor for them to do this.
