Playmates Toys

I'm just talking about the shape. The new one appears to be a flat piece with the "eye" printed, whereas the old one was a molded piece. YMMV.

They changed the absolutely correct bridge area to an absolutely wrong one.
And the neck shuttlebays have the same size now, so I guess this is the PIC S1 SFHQ holo version :D

Now on the TOS…is the secondary hull length to saucer ratio skewed in the secondary hull’s favor?

It’s a good look

Seeing all the comparisons of the '92 Enterprise-D with the current one made me actually dig up my own '92 version from my closet where it's been stuck inside a box for about a decade or so. It still looked great, so I popped in a new set of batteries to see if it still lit up and made sounds. Yep, it still does and even nicely for a 31-year old toy. Sure, the new model has better light-up effects and the saucer separation feature, but I think I'll pass on getting one and keep my original propped up on my living room table...

It’s the missing phaser array that really ruins it for me. I guess someone might offer 3D printed parts, but it feels like they intended to have something plug into the screw holes but it got lost to cost-cutting.

very ugly neck.
Please note that the suggestion was made in specific response to being able to somehow combine the two Playmates versions. The Diamond version was about the same price when it came out, so between time travel and the ability to merge two physical objects, I'll take time travel. ;)

But I agree. Ugly neck.
Ugly neck vs ugly lots-of-other-bits.

Me: "The perfect starship toy doesn't exist."
Playmates: "Hold my Romulan Ale."

I'm speechless right now, I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

She's beautiful. Gorgeous. PERFECT.
The lighting is nice, but the lack of paint on the bottom of the saucer and the secondary hull, as well as the lack of a clear red impulse engine is a real eye-sore. If it had those, it would have been unstoppable.

Hey, how often does a toy version of concept art get made?
If it's Star Wars actually quite often. They did a whole "Alpha Series" line with Action Fleet, concept art action figures of MacQuarrie's concepts of Han, Chewie, Obi-Wan, Vader and Yoda, as well as Hot Wheels of concept X-Wings, TIE Fighters, and the Millenium Falcon.

I had two MicroMachines playsets that came with an Original Trilogy vehicle and a smaller version of said vehicle based on Ralph McQuarry's art. I had the X-wing and AT-AT. Great 90s toys. But for Star Trek, I don't think that ever happened intentionally until the Eaglemoss models (which aren't really toys).

Well, you asked the question about concept art toys being made.

Sadly, no, Star Trek doesn't get the Star Wars toy treatment. :(

I wasn't antagonized by your post. It just reminded me of those toys. But yeah, nothing like that for Trek aside from the Playmates Enterprise-E.
