Star Wars Books Thread

John Jackson Miller has a new Star Wars novel

Longtime Star Wars scribe John Jackson Miller is returning to a galaxy far, far away next year with a brand-new novel titled Star Wars: The Living Force. Set one year before The Phantom Menace, Miller will be taking readers on what is being described as a “road trip” with each member of the Jedi Council while one member of the Order fears they are about to decline into nothing. The Living Force will be released on April 9, 2024.

That has my attention. John Jackson Miller penned what might be my all time favourite Star Wars novel; 'Kenobi'. 'A New Dawn' was pretty good too, and I do keep meaning to go back and read 'Knight Errant'.

if i had a dollar every time i heard there's a new prequel novel that takes place right before Phantom Menace I'd be a rich man right now.

There's been like how many books now taking place before Phantom Menace?

Master and Apprentice
Cloak and Deception
Darth Maul Lockdown
Darth Maul Shadow Hunter
Darth Maul Saboteur

And they have all been incredibly underwhelming. :)

I wish we got a sequel to "Knight Errant".

I'm really not seeing why this is noteworthy, there's a ton of books set all around the different movies.

well, youre missing the point, buster.

ITs another new prequel book that takes place RIGHT BEFORE PHANTOM MENACE.

thing is there's already been a couple of books that took place right before the beginning of Phantom Menace

LIke i just said, there's been Darth Maul Lockdown, the Master and Apprentice novel, Cloak and Decception, then two more Darth Maul books: Saboteur and Shadow Hunter.

One year =/= right before

The selling point of this book is that you get the 12 TPM Jedi Council members on a galactic road trip together, and you get at least one point of view section from each of them.

yeah, so?

the other books also take place right before Phantom Menace. Cloak and Deception last time i read it, its storyline takes place like a week or so right before the start of Phantom Menace.

Even Master and Apprentice takes a short while right before Phantom Menace.

SO whatever the new book has to "offer", the other prequel Phantom Menace novels they did the same exact thing

You're misunderstanding my point. One year is a long time, and the blurb is not claiming to be set "right before" TPM. It is just informing you of the setting.

What is exciting for me is that we are going to get deeper looks into some characters that we see a lot of (Yoda, Mace Windu) and some that have not gotten as much exploration (Yarael Poof). It's also from the same author as the masterful Kenobi and the KOTOR comic series, so there is reason to hope that this book will be pretty special.

It would be interesting to actually hear about the different council members rather than them just filling in the seats in TPM.

Master & Apprentice, no thes, and out of all the books you mentioned, it's the only one that's canon, so the other's don't really count when talking about the new book.

Only one I wasn’t a fan of was Traitor. Mainly because I’m not a fan of Stover’s writing style. The rest are fine.
