Star Wars Books Thread

well thats great and all but not everyone keeps track of whats new for Star Wars novels 24/7.

the only ones i know of are the new Jedi Fallen Order novel, High Republic Convergence and the other High Republic Prequel Prequel short stories book and thats it which i found out like two weeks ago.

excuse some of us for having a life where we dont sit on our butts at Star Wars book sites to keep up

You might want to double check that link.

But yes, that book was announced a while back. If you want to keep up to date with that kind of thing, wookieepedia maintains a list of future publications.

Was I talking to you? Kindly wind your neck in sunshine.

Bit late jumping in but I'm just starting High Republic Light of the Jedi. Need to see what this is all about before the High Republic Omnibus hits and I have to get that.

So the Grysk in Canon are more in line of the 'threat' Zahn was imagining in the EU when he wrote Outbound Flight, it was others that turned them into the Vong.

I think that book should be taken with a grain of salt. 2 mins flipping through it and I already noticed a relatively major problem with the Clone Wars end of things; it seems to place the first half of 'Dark Disciple' at the start of season 5 between the Onderon & Younglings arcs. It really should be after Ahsoka leaves the order as the disposition of Ventress's sabres is kind of an important plot detail. Plus of course her appearance in that last arc feels mutually exclusive with Dark Disciple happening sooner for a number of fairly obvious reasons.

This is why I've been saying for years that they really ought to have the war last closer to 4 or even 5 years rather than the usual 3. There's just too much going on, and as this proves, if you try and force it it'll only cause weird contradictions.
I mean Ahsoka's story alone is hard to fit into that timeframe given she's not supposed to have been assigned as Anakin's padawan until several months to half a year into the war, and must have left the order at least 6-9 months if not a full year before it's end. It feels off to think that she was only Anakin's apprentice for two years max, or as little as 18 months!

I'd like to put in a good word for the recently released Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade. Like Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, Inquisitor shows how a person might go from one type of existence to becoming a servant of evil. Everything seems perfectly reasonable from their point of view and focus, even if we as readers know that things are often more complex. Besides being a character study, the book also makes quite clear the perils of "one size fits all" methods of instruction.

Yeah I just finished reading 'Rise of the Red Blade' and it's easily my favourite 'Star Wars' book in a while. As much as I enjoy The High Republic as a setting; the last three or four entries were very so-so, with Convergence & Cataclysm both being a bit of a joyless slog to get through.

My only real criticism of RotRB, is that I was a little disappointed how little extra illumination we got regarding the Inquisitorious in general. We're still none the wiser on who the Grand Inquisitor was, how he nor the others survived Order 66, let alone who most of them where before. All we got was one character's rather narrow perspective . . . which is fine on it's own merits, but I was hoping for a little more substance. Hell, the book actively glosses over certain details such as the origins of their sabres, which is especially unfortunate given the title of the piece.

The prequel High Republic novels were way better than the originals. Better characters with less silly names and a better story. I'm sad to see it go.
