How much Star Trek do you really want/need?

I’m waiting to see if they green light Legacy. If they do, I’ll give it a chance. If not, its not the end of the world.

Lower Decks is my current fave, and its been suggested that it might not continue after S5. I thought that Trek, of all the Treks of today, would go on much longer. But if not, oh well.

SNW and Section 31…I’ll check out the newest season/the movie when they happen. But I’m not married to them.

Starfleet Academy…is there. It is what it is.

Kelvinverse...IDK anymore. Paramount really fumbled the opportunity to create what could have been the Trek equivalent of the MCU.

A prime universe movie…I would watch a movie where George Kirk captains the Kelvin a few years prior to The Cage. But I do not think its on Paramount's radar.

There isn’t much keeping me around. And I do not know if that’s a bad thing. I do have other interests besides Star Trek.

I would like it if Paramount+ just made one show, and that they really focused on it rather than trying to juggle 5 shows at once whose continuity with each other is marginal at best. And have it be original. Enough with the TOS 'prequels,' enough with the 32nd century (which I find boring and derivative), enough with the lame attempts at humor, enough with trying to create a vehicle for Michelle Yeoh's shitty Mirror universe character, and enough with the 25th century that doesn't revolve around Berman-era characters as a crutch. It's truly gotten to the point for me where I'm just no longer interested in the Trek P+ is putting out, with both current and future projects. The most original thing they've done is Prodigy, and they cancelled that after one season.

The current output is more than enough.

Star Trek does not hit a "need" level for me. If it is made, and I'm engaged, good deal. If not, and I'm not, that's ok too.

Yup.

I don't think we need any more Trek. I'm happy to enjoy a new season of SNW if / when it comes.

Honestly, if they announced they were shutting it all down, I'd be more interested in the drama here than anything else. On a personal level, I'd be more reflective than upset.

Also this.

Very good, both of you.

So long as something is being made, I am generally happy.
Pretty much. Loved everything up to and including (particularly) DS9. Like Disco and SNW. Enjoyed most of Picard. Only stuff I really don't like is the animated shows, and specifically Lower Decks. Which I dealt with by stopping watching.

As long as there's some live action Trek coming out, I'm good.

Of course I have preferences - I'd kill for a 24th C. Legacy show. I like the sound of a Section 31 show.

And a Garak/Bashir show featuring The O'Briens...

I think I'm right there with you.

I'd be happy with 1 series of, say, 22 to 25 episodes a season. 5 seasons. Take a couple of years off and start another series. In the meantime do a mini series or two. Couple this along with a movie every 2 or 3 years.

We don't need the ship to be Enterprise. We don't need strong ties to previous series. It's not necessary for the star to be raised by Sarek.

I like SNW best of the new era of shows. I liked Picard season 3 best because that felt like Star Trek (guess I need my series to be based on a starship (or starbase ala DS9)). I even like LD but it's still too chock full of references to the point it breaks the 4th wall for me. I even liked PRO. DIS is mixed for me as I think season 3 should have been the premise from the start.

I was hoping for a nearly continuous steam of Star Trek in this era of streaming. 3 or 4 series with 10 to 13 episodes each with maybe a couple of weeks break in between each.

That said, TNG, DS9, and VOY will have to be pried from my cold, dead hands. I rewatch them regularly and still enjoy them. My kids already have instructions to make sure I can watch them as I wish in the nursing home.

Is there, like, paperwork or something MY kids would need to sign? I want that!

How much is too much?
Without sharing the Mitochondrial-Level way that Star Trek is in my DNA, I will say that as long as the look and feel and vibe of the ships and music and je ne sais quoi of it remains, there is no such thing as too much.

I am serious about adopting your retirement plan, @Oct 31!!!

Keep it coming. If there's a point where "the sheer volume starts to rob it of some of its specialness", that was in the Berman era where there were 26-episode seasons and a much more rigid formula.

Given there's no obligation to watch all of it, I don't see an issue. I had no interest in Prodigy, so I never watched it. I have mild interest in SNW and LDS, so I'm holding off until Paramount+ has a deal to watch their latest seasons.

If the suggestion is that the current volume somehow dilutes the brand, the brand was trashed years ago with dreadful films and mediocre shows. If anything, the current era is a revival and improvement.
