USS Albacore, Ambassador Class Prototype

I suppose it is rather hose-like in its structure, yes. I wanted the bussard to be a wraparound tube (think of it like a half-tokamak that contains and processes the ingested hydrogen.) that then is ducted inside the nacelle. The surface of the bussard has numerous pores that let in gases, but like a cell membrane, won't let them out. here's a closeup of the wireframe:
~ Ah, that makes sense. That you put so much thought into the functionality of your designs really sells them as a cohesive whole, in my opinion. Just astonishing! :bolian:

Making some headway on the underside saucer textures now. I'm trying to evoke something of the highly striated appearance of the original Ambassador saucer, especially in the normal mapping.

The Cargo Deck is a kitbash of parts from previous projects and isn't really intended to be viewed this close up, but there might be shots of the ship from directly aft, and I thought it would be a good idea to give the area some lighting, and some variation in the shaders between the various components:

The upper saucer texture map is very nearly done. Just the superstructure textures left to go now and then I can start thinking of putting this ship into some scenes:

Make it mooooooooove!

oh puh-lease… false modesty does not suit you, @SCE2Aux … you know that your Cargo Deck looks fabulously grungy.

No false modesty that I'm aware of! Seriously, I'd say a good two-thirds of that bay was ripped right out of my old Trilobite ship, so whilst I want the bay to look fairly good, this is not a part of the Albacore that I want to focus on too much because it's not an original part.

I do want to animate it when it's finished, though! :)

Perfect name for that ship. Reminds me of the Albacore sailboats we had back in the 70-80s. HUGE buggers that just took a pounding. Love it.
