The Most Disliked Episode of TOS, 2023 Edition - Season 1...

A worthy 'winner' for season 1... "THE ALTERNATIVE FACTOR" won last year, as well. But "MUDD'S WOMEN"... that has been runner up or winner for ALL of the 'Most Disliked' Season 1 TOS games.

Thank you all for playing. I'll start season 2 sometime tomorrow.

Oops missed my favourite season because I fell asleep on the sofa last night. :D

I would have removed Charlie X and The Enemy Within much sooner, even with the latter's ending that hasn't really aged very well.

Great choice for the winner, though really there are only two big loser episodes this season anyway.

"The Alternative Factor" is actively painful to watch. Like, physically painful. I think I only saw it once - catching it randomly in a hotel room on vacation as a kid - and I still remember vividly the splitting headache it gave me. So screechy and scratchy and bright.

The only other Star Trek that I can ever remember inducing actual physical pain was one ep of SNW with a repeating high-pitched whine sound cue.

The Trek equivalent of Electric Soldier Porygon? That was a Pokémon episode that was never released in the US because it sent a bunch of kids in Japan to the ER eith seizures.

You know, my autism was undiagnosed then, and now I'm thinking - maybe my reaction to it was an actual autistic meltdown from sensory overload?

And if that weren't enough to condemn it, also everything else about the episode is terrible! A true "burn every copy" installment for the franchise.

There's some neat ideas in "The Alternative Factor" if you're living sixty years ago and have never heard of parallel worlds before, but yeah, the actual plot just goes up and down from the ship to the planet with no forward progression until it just ends. The mystery isn't intriguing, it's just annoying, and even the psychedelics are done better in other episodes.

I thought The Alternative Factor would make a good drinking game; take a drink every time you think Lazarus changed places. To this day, I still don't know how many times he changed places because I drank myself stupid...
