The Book Of Boba Fett

Again, I'm only talking about applying deep-fake 'looks' and 'voices' to motion-capture performances by human actors, acting out human-created scripts. Not a total reliance on AI for every level of the production.

I was responding to David cgc's comment about the tech allowing amateurs to create their own fan productions. Now, if you want a fan film to look good, you need to put a good amount of hard work and talent into it, and collaborate with other people who can critique and improve your work, which probably weeds out a lot of the junk you'd otherwise get from people who have ambition but no actual creative ability or judgment. If anyone can just push a few buttons and tell a machine to make the movie they see in their heads, the amount of sheer garbage is likely to increase exponentially.

Ah, so you're only looking to put make-up artists and voice actors out of work then! Good to know! ;)

IIRC they had Hamil read the lines, then used their fancy computer software to take recordings of him from the 70s/80s and try and match his performance.

If so, they didn't do very well. "Luke"'s delivery in those episodes had none of Hamill's flair as a vocal performer. They would've been better off just going with an impressionist, or simply recasting the role.

Yeah, the "flop" stuff I didn't jibe with but I liked most of the post up to then.

Solo was a flop by Star Wars theatrical movie standards. Most films would eat their own young in front of other children to make Solo money at the box office.

Responding to these old-ish posts, I would more accurately state Solo underperformed commercially on its initial release, but it was by no means at all a terrible movie and while it was less necessary than The Rise Of Skywalker, it felt a lot more self-contained and had a lot of stuff in it borrowed by later SW productions.

But when it had a hefty budget of up to 300 million (due to reshoots that Disney got far too fond of doing) but struggled to make up to 400 million, it now does feel like an earlier prototype of Disney's string of underperformers this year.

What do you mean? All I can think of is Kessel and the summa-verminoth, and then only because Kessel appeared in TCW S7 and the summa-verminoth appeared in comics.

Off the top of my head, there's also the Pykes, which have since been featured in Clone Wars, Bad Batch and Book of Boba Fett.

The Pykes debuted in a fifth-season The Clone Wars story arc in 2013, five years before Solo. They were also featured in the 2015 novel Dark Disciple, adapting a cancelled TCW story arc.

I guess it depends how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go with that one. 'Solo' had a bunch of oblique references to all kinds of stuff from old media. A lot of it was very much in the background (like Dryden's table made from part of Exar Kun's tomb), some of it was straight-up name dropped (like Teräs Käsi), and some of it was a little more oblique (like using Mimban.) But if you want a general summery of such stuff, this is probably the most concise resource.

A lot of Solo's budget and reshoots had to do with the firing of the original director, and then they brought in Howard to try and salvage what they thought had turned into a horrible mess. That certainly didn't help the production. One can't help but wonder what Howard would have done with this production if it had been his from the get-go?

The issue was things in Solo ( I took that to mean things introduced by the film ) which appeared in later SW projects.

I think it would have remained what was released back in 2018. I mean . . . Ron Howard didn't exactly change his directional style for "Solo". And if I must be honest, I wasn't looking forward to what Lord and Miller had planned for the movie. Especially after hearing about it.
