"Star Trek:Admiralty"

I hadn't considered that. I just thought since we have the lower deckers (LD) and the in-betweeners (TOS, SNW, DSC, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT), the admiralty is the one level whose POV (aside from in-betweeners who become admirals) has not been seen.

But it would definitely not feature our known characters post-promotion.

Hopefully, they aren't all villainous. :vulcan: Honestly, the only reason they're written that way in current and past shows is because the hero characters need some authority's orders to buck. Who else are captains taking (and disobeying) orders from?

Oh, so a show focused on crazy people and villains. Interesting.
Maybe that's what they could make the show about. Have the lead character be a newly promoted Commodore who still has idealism and nobility. But over the course of the series as they're constantly exposed to the corruption and outright villainy that exists among Starfleet's flag ranks, we see them gradually slip into becoming the "Evil Admiral" that's such a trope throughout the franchise.

I think it will be interesting. Because with the main character as an admiral, we can see Federation more than what we can see from the perspective of a ship. But the show will be more political than before. We will see the show like Babylon 5 after Sheridan become the president.

Doing what exactly? I guess you could do something West Wing like.

That's what I thought of. Of course, it wasn't simply centered on POTUS and VP - you still had the mid-tier and dogsbody characters to flesh it out. Presumably in an "admiral" show, we'd still have their adjuncts and other lower-ranked staff in the mix.

I guess rather than see the adventures of intrepid Starfleet crews first-hand, we'd hear about them in briefings. Cool.

Could always see a Yorktown base show, with an Admiral in charge. Have a variety of negotiation, political, and exploration storylines.

Admirals can be on ships they are on air aircraft carriers already.
And you could still have a captain be one of his subordinates sending the captain on missions etc.

The reality is star trek routinely puts captains in roles that should be done by an admiral especially the entire concept of ds9.

You could also make ot about an admiral trying to make it to retirement grooming a young commander for higher up roles. Not to mention fleet battles where the admiral directs small fleets of ships.

You could also go the Kirk route and have the admiral be a guy who refuses to stay at a desk.
Not to mention all the b plots with lower ranks. I.e. the admiral is investigating a situation where a young commander screws up badly and he must act as the hammer etc.

Ah, okay. I was just wondering, as I was getting ideas that it would be based around Janeway interacting with Admiral Clancy with the guest cameo of Neychayev and Picard.

If its supposed to be fresh with no one we know, then 26th century would be a good setting for it. Followed by the Lost Era, possibly between the Tomed Incident and the Cardassian Occupation.

But I agree. There are several admiral roles that has been taken by "Captain" in several Star Trek episode. Even Picard, a simple captain of USS Enterprise D had the actual Admiral role in TNG when the Borg came in season 3. They claimed that he was responsible for the security detail of the entire sector. That's admiral's job. Not a captain of a ship.

Well, it also sound like the Expanse, when the war between Earth and Mars going on; we are seeing the highest echelon watch the star map and see several ships exchange missiles to each others. It will be cool.

Yeah it's worth mentioning the closer we get to realistic combat the more likely it is that real story will be the higher ups.

As a fan of "harder" sci fi, it's sort of wild how star trek does the opposite of what it good at, sometimes.

Star Trek was so prophetic with some aspects of a realistic space military. And then goes the other extreme where its' swords and pitchforks.

If we have an admiralty show, we should bring Janeway into it, constantly irking the other admirals as she does things in unorthodox ways, occasionally breaking the Prime Directive, because of her own moral code. We know she is an admiral now, but I somehow don’t see her becoming corrupt as she never let Starfleet ideals corrupt her before!

Maybe a Starfleet version of Blue Bloods - feature characters who know each other - instead of being members of one family, how about former members of one crew? - at various levels of Starfleet.

Former crew of the USS _________ have dispersed to new assignments. Some have family.

Captain is now an admiral and head of command (for a particular sector/quadrant perhaps)
First officer is now that ship's captain
Security officer is now leading the security team of a Starfleet enforcement cruiser
Science officer/engineer is part of a travelling science consultant/engineering team
Medical officer works on a small hospital ship

Go back and forth between the characters, showing their various cases/missions, and the challenges in each. They often chat over subspace looking for advice from each other.

It's like Star Trek Picard phase 2?

Too much like real life.
