What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

He probably served on the Enterprise under Pike, transferred off for a new opportunity serving in a Vulcan medical ward and eventually grew out of the need to be there, requesting a transfer back to the Enterprise under Kirk but accepting a junior status under first Mark Piper and then McCoy.

I think TOS M'Benga shaved off his beard and returned to the Enterprise after S2: Journey To Babel when McCoy realized that he was not medically skilled enough to conduct surgery on Vulcans, and since there is a Vulcan serving on the ship... His first TOS appearance was in S2: A Private Little War and stayed on for the rest of the mission (also in S3: That Which Survives). I was surprised that he didn't take over Spock's medical care after they removed his brain (it occurred in S3: Spock's Brain, between the two previously referenced episodes). :vulcan: Maybe McCoy consulted with him off screen and helped to hot wire Spock's body.:rommie:

They've already laid down some groundwork for McCoy becoming CMO instead of M'Benga, if they use it.

I think M'Benga loses his position due to a PTSD-related issue. Or, in S3, we find out Starfleet didn't just forget about what happened in SNW S2E8, which opens up a whole can of worms where they don't send him to prison, but do reprimand or demote him, if he isn't cleared.

Anyway, that's my guess.

SNW is connecting more to TOS than I originally thought it would. It comes back to what I always say, "It's not going to be as much the same as some people want, but it's not going to be as different as what some other people want." None of these series have ephemeral storytelling.

Controversial Opinion: I find the 24th/25th century characters to be incredibly boring, for the most part.

With the exception of DS9, most of the characters were about as exciting as dry toast. TNG and VOY were clearly held back by the Roddenberrian sensibilities.

The pompousness of the characters is almost palpable. The older I get, I even find it hard to like characters such as Picard, a man I hero worshipped as a child. Now struggle to find any likable traits in the character.

This is all opposed to characters from the 22nd and 23rd centuries, whom I find warm and approachable. Archer, Trip, T'Pol, Hoshi, Phlox, Reed, Mayweather, were people I could relate too. People who you would want to be friends with. Same can be said of Pike, Una, Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Scotty, La'an, Ortegas, Sulu, Chekov, McCoy, Chapel, M'Benga, Hemmer, Pelia, etc.

Even Discovery manages to have characters that feel like actual living, breathing beings with emotion. Unlike the mannequins of the 24th century, DS9 excluded.

So McCoy
is his probation officer?

As much as I love TOS, I really find TAS a struggle due to the animation. This is a stupid complaint, but little things bug me, like the fact the characters don’t have whites in their eyes; that and the constantly recycled footage. I’m going to give it another try though.

i kinda like seska.... not sure if that's "controversial", but she was pretty cool!

If nothing else listen to it like a radio play. I think a greater percentage of TAS stories are top notch than actual TOS. (I should check that math.)

Una Una Una

I dont watch SWN because they ruined Number One. (To me) her name is Number One. The mysteriousness is radical to the character.

I *was* going to give them a chance until that short when the put "Una" (I hate the name) and (of all of them) Spock into a turbo singimg Major General

And they didnt even try to justify that with spores(*) or polywater

Also I just learned shes an AUGMENT yeesh

(*) Omicron spores NOT disco spore drive. That would be stupid

(could not find the edit button) the point is I don't want to know anything about Number One. She was perfect in The Cage. SWN wants to tell us the color of her panties

You get an edit button after X number of posts.

Once you have it, if you still care, you can come back and revise these youthful follies.

Oh I remember now. Sulu in VI. Uhura I dont know
Nyota. It was given in the 2009 movie but had been used in novels for years.

Author William Rotsler created the name "Nyota" for his 1982 licensed tie-in book, Star Trek II Biographies published by Wanderer (Pocket) Books. Seeking approval for the name he contacted Gene Roddenberry and Nichelle Nichols. Roddenberry approved of the name. Nichols also approved and was very excited when Rotsler informed her that Nyota means "star" in Swahili.[4] After originating in Star Trek II Biographies "Nyota" started appearing in Star Trek novels, such as Uhura's Song (1985) by Janet Kagan. While guest-starring on the game show Super Password on January 7, 1987, Nichols stated that Uhura's first name was "Nyota".[5] - Wikipedia
