Disney had a earnings call yesterday and the much troubled "Echo" has dropped off their upcoming release slate.

No "What If" Season 2 either, but I've kind of given up on that happening.

I mean, the Watcher shows up in "I am Groot" S2's trailer, so if he's still around then I don't see why What If? won't get another season.

I know I'm wasting my time here but...

What's the source of that graphic?

Well, yes... the saga of Black Widow getting to a solo movie was a long and tortuous one.

Ah, but Spider-Man had no justifiable business in The Real Avengers 3: Civil War, other than behind-the-scenes wrangling with Sony, and Marvel/Disney desperate to shove him into a MCU film as soon as possible, even when it made no sense at all. That was the worst, most glaring example of forcing appearances in a superhero film that did not serve the plot (well, part of the film had one), long before a character had a solo movie.

I used to think they wanted to get him into Avengers 2. There's an empty space at the end where it feels like an additional character should be standing.

I believe that space was meant for Captain Marvel. They actually filmed with a stand-in since Brie wasn't cast yet and ultimately scrapped the idea, Feige wanting to introduce her in more than just a cameo where she doesn't even speak.

So the empty space wasn't just my imagination?

Doing some further googling, seems like we're both right! They shot footage with fake Captain Marvel there, but also DID want Spider-Man part of the group, just didn't shoot anything with him since the timing of getting the rights to the character just didn't work out enough.

"I wanted all those people. I said, it would be great if we could just add a few more, if we could have a Captain Marvel there, that you’ve made a deal for. And they talked about it. I was like, ‘And Spider-Man, we could do that too, cause Sony had approached us during the first movie about a little integration."

And here's the shot of not Brie:

I gotta say I'm really glad neither of those happened. Not just because I far prefer what we got instead, but I also feel that would've been a cheap gimmick. I think that moment works far better with only known characters, particularly in conjunction with the final lines from Cap and Nat.

It's that time of the month because here's another Mephisto rumor, per io9's Morning Spoilers:

Marvel insider CanWeGetToast alleges the extra-dimensional demon, Mephisto, “will not make an appearance in Agatha: Coven of Chaos,” but “the character is mentioned in regards to Agatha’s son: Nicolas Scratch.”
Emphasis on alleges.

Batten down for "This proves Mephiso is definitely appearing this time. Has to!"

According to those who were at Disney's quarterly earnings meeting, Deadpool 3 is no longer on the 2024 release schedule and 'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes', is set to take its May 2024 slot.

Re: the Captain Marvel in AoU thing, wouldn’t 99% of the audience have just been like “who the f’s that?” or “where did she come from?”

“Oh we just “found” this new super duper powered hero in the last couple of days. Conveniently for this moment. Because if we knew she existed before this we could have obviously used her help in the fight against Ultron.”

I can see it now-
“And we’re gonna see the New Avengers”
“Oh boy”
“And Captain Marvel’s gonna be there”
“Oh really? And what does she do?”
“I just told you”
“Oh, so where did she come from?”
“Unclear!”

That totally reads like a conversation between Writer Guy and Producer Guy from Pitch Meetings.

Yeah, I really don't see how Capt. Marvel or Spider-Man appearing at the end of AoU without being introduced before it would have felt really random. Those characters both really deserved the kind of big introductions they ended up getting, not just random cameos.
