Kirk nearly lost it during Spock's eulogy. I don't consider that "barely". It still makes me tear up.
TFF aged better than a lot of the other films since 1986.
I'm hesitant to put it above Insurrection but you're probably right.

I always pointed to First Contact as proof that a good TNG Movie could be done. Which made Insurrection and Nemesis so much more disappointing. If it was all crap, and they couldn't do better, then whatever. But the fact that they could do better made it worse.
I thought another good TNG Movie was like a Unicorn... until Picard came along.

BTW, Kirk's reaction to David's death was perfect... because it was so clumsy and imperfect. That made it look a lot more natural to me, than it would've if it looked too good.

When I was told my Dad died 25 years ago this month I just sort of muttered some words and stared off into the middle distance. I'd sooner believe Kirk falling backwards to the floor and tearing up in grief than a classic moment of Shatner hamminess.
Insurrection was too short. Nemesis was too long. and both movies had scenes cut from it that would have made the films better.
TFF has a lot of interesting ideas, but its too slow of a movie for me to like.

NEM could have at least been a watchable, so-so Trek movie with those superior deleted scenes put back in. Without them it's just...well, a lot less so.
Yeah. My brother passed very suddenly nearly a year ago. I got the call when I was at work, and until the moment I got to my car, I was just STUNNED and barely able to speak.
Hits different people different ways, but I find Kirk’s response incredibly believable, and Shatner’s acting there is fantastic.
Shatner may choose over-the-top more often than not but sometimes he gets it so deftly right that he'd get applause from Sir Patrick Stewart.
I like it better than all 4 TNG movies.
It has this scene. This scene by itself makes up for a lot of the movie's failings, technical and otherwise.
And the dune buggy scene could have been deleted and nobody would miss it.

All the scenes that take place in that observation lounge are fantastic, but certainly this is the best of them

Better than 3 of the 4 TNG movies, and better than all 3 Kelvin movies. In my opinion.
