What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Complaining about Kirk’s death again—I’m still terribly pissed that Picard buries him on a mountaintop on that lifeless planet as though Kirk was some kind of nameless hobo he’d just met through rather than one of the greatest legends in Starfleet history. I mean, surely they could have taken the body and given him a burial he deserves back on Earth.

I mean, I get the frustration but I don't agree with the read. What else was Picard to do? He had to wait for a rescue and leaving Kirk exposed to the elements would be just as disrespectful as leaving him behind. So a burial would work, and then the Farragut (appropriately enough) would transport him aboard for proper handling.

Apparently Shatner missing the chair wasn't intentional, but Nimoy kept filming. I think it was Nicholas Meyer who said that the trick with Shatner was to keep doing takes until he got tired of acting and started acting...

Everybody seems to be so damn excited about the SNW musical episode but I don't know if I'll ever have the guts to watch it.

I feel like I'm missing the point that everyone else gets.

Musical episodes have quite a tradition in comedic or semi-comedic shows, such as Once More With Feeling in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or the musical episode in Scrubs, also the one in Daria.
They're just meant to be fun, and I, for one really like them :-)

The rest of TSFS is a unmitigated masterpiece for Shatner.

Agreed. The heart of what drives Kirk's feelings were put to the test repeatedly in TSFS, with one of ST's best, heartbreaking moments coming during Sarek's mind-meld with Kirk, ending with Kirk's broken "no" at reliving Spock's death again. Of course, Horner's music for that scene was a masterclass in knowing how to score a scene.

Not quite. Shatner accidentally stumbled on the step when he was backing up during rehearsal, and that gave him the idea for doing it during the scene. So they then rehearsed it until Shatner felt comfortable with the stunt. Shatner tells the story in Star Trek Movie Memories.

I love Star Trek v: The Final Frontier.

It has a few bruises, namely the special effects and some of the cheaper humor. At its heart it has a great story and advances the lore more than its given credit for. I really enjoy some of the character moments. People talk smack about the fan dance but I think it's fantastic that an actress in her mid-50s got a chance to show off, in light of how Hollywood back then and also nowadays tends to treat women in that age group. And the use of color, particularly in the latter half of the movie, is simply dazzling. I think it's better than at least 3 out of the 4 Next Generation movies, if I'm being honest.
