Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to embed polls in already established threads. However, I think that the linked post poses a valid question which is proving quite controversial amongst fandom.

Should the fans run the show?

Options are: “Yes, ma’am”

Or perhaps: Will AI one day be the show runners? Will AI… dream?

You may have additional ideas or opinions about how the show could be ran which you may wish to comment about below. Perhaps the show should be ran via some form of democracy though, rather than a creative dictatorship. :D

That would be a hell no. Fandom in general can be excruciatingly anal, insular and prone to gatekeeping. It would be disastrous and destroy whatever any minor appeal the show has to a general audience and potential new fans.

However, I’m all for fans who happen to be extremely talented writers and creators taking charge; those who understand the importance of pushing forward, taking chances and not just delivering Easter eggs and fanwank.

Hells no. With The Fans in charge we would be back to twenty-six episodes of the same five regurgitated plotlines on a loop, because that's apparently what qualifies as True Star Trek according to The Fans. SNW would be shot on faithful replicas of the sets from The Cage with either doppelgangers of The Cage's cast or deepfakes of them. Hell, something like Picard S3 would probably be a best case scenario with The Fans in charge. Plus, they'd likely want to canonize the novels and STO, despite both contradicting each other.

Besides, even Gene Himself said Star Trek would be shit if fans were given authority over the franchise. And in this instance, He was right.

I'm pretty sure most of the people making the show probably consider themselves fans. However, they're not TrueFans™, i.e. the ones upset when the ph of Vulcan's soil is said to be 7.8 in a new production and not 8.1 as stated on a barely glimpsed graphic from an episode aired thirty years ago.

Absolutely not!

People who know the show and like it to some degree are fine but I'd rather have a showrunner who has never seen an episode before than a fan.

All Trek BBS members should come together to make an episode of Star Trek. What could possibly go wrong?

Sure I suppose it’s comforting when the franchise is in the hands of someone who knows the history and has some appreciation for it.

But much like anal bleaching; writing, directing, and producing should be left to the professionals.
