Boy, that wasn't the case with me. She was basically just an interesting looking extra up until the episode where they killed her off. So suddenly jamming in character development in a single episode so we'd be affected when she died didn't work for me at all.9. I felt it when Airiam died.
When was this?
Ditto, to all of that.Controversial Opinion:
Airiam was a piece of bridge furniture, who had a backstory bolted onto her 5 minutes before she died in order to give her fate some kind of pathos.
It did not work and I did not care.
What little character development she had was grafted on crudely and at the last minute.
Before she died, she was just a robot, who made buzzing noises when she moved her head, played by two actresses who spent more time in make-up than they did looking at a script.
Her death meant nothing to me.
Damn straight.8. TOS Season 3 is good.
9. I felt it when Airiam died.
TOS Season 3 is the weakest by a mile for me but it's not as bad as many make it out to be. It's got a few genuine clunkers and one bona fide stinker in it but it has more rewatchability than many seasons of the later series all the way up to today. It has "The Mark of Gideon" and "And the Children Shall Lead" but it also has "The Enterprise Incident" and "All Our Yesterdays."
1. And I'm looking forward to the new Jim Kirk show.1. Looking forward to Legacy.
2. Looking forward to the Section 31 TV Movie.
3. When Disco left the 23rd Century, in a way, so did I.
4. I side with Janeway in "Tuvix".

Wow, I didn't even realize the character had been played by two different actresses. Before she died, she was just a robot, who made buzzing noises when she moved her head, played by two actresses who spent more time in make-up than they did looking at a script.

I think this is exactly what happened. The actor would've rather that her face be seen, if there's no compelling reason to cover it up and be stuck in that makeup chair for so long whenever she was on set.Presumably the first jacked it in because the time feeling uncomfortable in the make-up chair just wasn't worth it when balanced against the lines she was given.
My personal theory is the character was killed off because the cost of doing her make-up wasn't worth it when balanced against the screen time she got.
Wait. Actor 1 played Character 1. Character 1 was recast with Actor 2. Character 1 was killed off and replaced with Character 2. And Character 2 was cast with Actor 1? Wild. The person that replaced her position on Discovery was the one who played her in season 1. Season 2, Airiam was played by a different actress.
If Airiam was introduced in an episode of SNW and introduced there, everyone would be like, "That one episode where we see her story is all we need!" "It's SNW, it's awesome, bite-sized tasty morsels!" "Best thing since sliced bread!" "800 episodes and this was the BEST EVAR!!!!!"
I do. I'm speaking generally from what I"ve seen of Average TrekBBS Poster or Average Trekkie in general.I hope you think better of me than that.
