After Market Car Stereos - Apple CarPlay Compatible

I'm starting to do some research on third party car play stereos of my Honda Accord 2017 EX. I haven't had a working Car Play for a few years and since I came back to apple last year, I've been using a car mount. However, I do miss Car Play and would like to get it back somehow. The issue is car play would crash if I use the navigation system. It was also end up crashing the entire infotainment system on the car, which is pretty dangerous if you are driving. I've visited sites saying it's not recommended (Crutchfield) to replace the factory radio but I think I'm going to do it anyway.

Despite that though, I don't really know anything about this process, which is why I'm asking here. If anyone will give me any help you can I would appreciate it. I know it's possible to install a third party stereo system on the car (My friend did a pioneer NEX for his Honda Ridgeline which was a 2010 car) but I really don't know how it all works or where to go and how much it could be.

Think you first have to find out why it's not recommended, could be the thing is tied into some of the techy stuff of the car which then won't be able to run properly, stuff is not as easy as it used to be when it comes to car electronics.

That's true, but it really sucks that I bought the car specifically for a feature and in a few years it no longer works. It doesn't make sense to me that that would be the case, and there should be some way to have access to that feature again.

You could look if there have been updates for the infotainment system? a 2017 car isn't that old yet might be that it has been bumped up a few versions over time to stay compatible.

They don't do updates for the 2017 Accord anymore, according to their website.

Ah, that sucks, and it's the way things are nowadays..phones, TV's and cars... :klingon:

Given that people keep the cars for a lot longer than a couple of years and there's a lot more money invested in the purchas, the makers need to be jump on from a great height over that.

Though it could down to the originators of the software but I don't know if the technology behind the in car entertainment systems races a head each year as it does with cellphones for example.
