The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

It's funny the things you sometimes forget/remember over the years.
Case in point. . .

My first employer/boss was friends with the Broccoli's; specifically Barbara.

Every time a new Bond movie was filmed, she would be flown out to Pinewood Studios to meet with the cast and crew and would attend the world premieres.

She had numerous photos in her office and house of behind the scenes photos of Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan on set and a couple of the red carpet premieres of 'A View to a Kill' and 'Goldeneye' as well pictures taken with Roger and Pierce on the red carpet.

Sadly, 'Goldeneye' was her last Bond movie. She developed MS and passed away before 'The World is Not Enough'.

I should note that there's a distinct possibility that it was just a coincidence. A few weeks earlier, they'd aired an episode in which Gilligan and the Skipper lost their hair. It could be that they just wanted to get a little more use out of one of those bald wigs and figured that was a good, classic look for an evil genius...and they just happened upon what would soon become the classic Blofeld look.

Poor Oddjob. Maybe he can use his physical strength to help repair the hole in the S.S. Minnow. :shifty:

James Norton has not met with the Bond producers

I have to ask, have you tested for the Bond producers, or had any preliminary discussions with them?

No, no, no, none of that. It’s a really lovely piece of clickbait media in the U.K., and anyone can write any story about it and it will get the most incredible sort of hype around it. No, no conversations. Basically nothing else to say other than I think they’re probably still working it all out. It’s a big challenge to know which direction to take that huge franchise in. But beyond that, it’s lots of quite fun and bemusing media coverage. There’s nothing concrete behind it.

Off topic, but seeing the larger version of that picture in the YouTube video, only now do I realize that's a flower in his mouth. Seeing the image in your avatar all this time, I thought it was a goatee.

There's the oft-told story where George Martin was given the task of scoring the movie, so, he asked Paul to come up with the theme song. Paul went out, bought the book, read it over the weekend, and with Linda's help, came up with the theme song.

Paul then took Wings into the studio, and with George Martin producing, recorded the song live with the orchestra.

George Martin took the song to James Bond producer Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, who listened to it then said, "That's a very good demo. Now who are we going to get to sing it?"

George had to convince "Cubby" that that was the finished theme song and that's what would be playing over the opening credits.

I don't remember where I saw this, it was at least 20 years ago, but someone expressed the opinion that the song "Live and Let Die" was Paul's revenge for Connery's line in Goldfinger about listening to the Beatles while wearing earmuffs.

I'm reading 'The McCartney Legacy, Vol. 1: 1969-1973' and I've just learned that Paul was approached to write the theme song for 'Diamonds Are Forever.'
This is where memories get hazy.
Paul says he couldn't come up with a lyric/melody that fit the title and subsequently turned them down; while the Producers say he wrote some lyrics and gave them an incomplete demo tape with Paul humming where the missing verses would go, but they rejected it.
I'm more inclined to believe Paul's story, but wouldn't it be interesting, if filed away somewhere forgotten, is a demo tape of Paul's version of 'Diamonds Are Forever'.

I find the producer's version -- Paul recorded a demo with incomplete, hummed lyircs -- believable. "Yesterday" famously didn't have lyrics, just a tune for a long time until Paul worked out lyrics that fit. His demo for "World Without Love," which has never been bootlegged and is believed lost, has been described in similar terms to this supposed "Diamonds are Forever" demo -- a tune and imcomplete lyrics. Paul's memory is not infaliable; he's 81 and has spent much of the last fifty-five years stoned. :)
