I loath Orteges!!

Seven was a great character and they degraded her into an object of lust and subjected the franchise to ridicule with that.
I think you have the order backward. And it was so ridiculed that they felt it was worth trying it again three years later.

Funny, I phrased my original comment in that order (They did her dirty; Seven was a great character), and then changed it before posting because it made more sense to identify who I was talking about before I commented on how they dressed her.

Yes, if that was supposed to be the “Ortegas episode” she got seriously short-changed.

Some episodes divide the focus among multiple characters. "Prodigy" did this all the time, that was its own unique way of spreading the love.

Pike said he'd catch her next time, and we know there is going to be an episode where she flies the shuttle, with the free-fall engine start. That's probably her episode.

I have faith in SNW that Ortegas will get her time in the sun. DS9 was able to do ot with Bashir, and Ortegas is way more interesting.

Seven was a character they degraded thus, and she still managed to be one of VOY's best features. That's what you call overcoming an obstacle.

I don't really care for Ortegas's hair, but it doesn't affect my opinion about her. It's not like Gray's mullet.
Couldn't stick with DIS, but mullets are the most awesome hairstyle in existence. I resent being bald on top because it means I can't wear a mullet.

Dressing the women badly had been going on since the beginning, but turning T’Pol into a massage parlor girl was going boldly where no ST writer had gone before.
Someone should have put up a fence.

Indeed and it's frustrating because it gets repeated from time to time, and then there are the comments of "Oh, we need more attractive people in Star Trek." Which is a problem going back the length of the franchise and then some, but aggravating none the less. And yes, I'll confess to ignoring Seven a lot because I felt she was just an object of lust, and marketed that way and didn't appreciate her character journey as such. It's distracting.

I only just recently watched VOY from beginning to end (didn’t see it when it aired), and I was startled by how good she was, because I remembered seeing promos for the show when she was on it and being super turned off by the overt sexualization. The disconnect between her visual portrayal and her character is

Indeed. She came, she saw, she acted the hell outta that role. I need a salute emoji.
Jeri got nominated for an HCA award this week for her work on Picard. Probably will all be overshadowed if the actors strike tonight though (not that the strike is a bad thing, the studios aren't treating SAG fairly).

*and her character is quite wide.
<sigh> I probably shouldn’t be using the iPhone to post in here.

It's tough and you don't get editing privileges for about 14 days or so many posts (can't recall exacts. Someone will correct me when I misspeak).

But, yes, I do way more spelling errors on my phone than if I use a PC.

Now I need to look and see if she won anything for VOY. If not, she’s owed an apology for more than just the catsuit and stilettos.

I don’t like Ortegas, because the way she is being written makes her very irritating, one-dimensional, and immature. If they actually gave her some decent character development rather than just being a generic smartass, I would probably like her more. And while I also find her haircut to be rather silly, it’s not a deal breaker. Right now she has about the same development as Jenna Mitchell, who has no development.

I enjoy the Ortegas character, but it's true that she's really more of an archetype than a character at this point. She's the "quippy hotshot ace pilot," à la Tom Paris, and it would be nice to see her get a few episodes in the limelight.

Military members being all tough and shit...oh wait, no, they're sarcastic as they go through taser training:
