What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I don't count SHORT TREKS as a series, personally, but I understand why many would.

Since there is hope PRODIGY will end up on another service, it's not actually over yet. That can take quite a while. But DISCO will be done for certain with the upcoming season, which is why I used that as the 'first series' without him.

And with SNW, there is at least one more season coming after the WGA strike, so anything is possible.

I mean, after the LD crossover I feel like the most obvious way of getting him in it (time travel) would probably feel a little bit unoriginal. Unless they want to make a "These Are the Voyages..."-style series finale, which I can't imagine anyone's too anxious to do.

Now I kinda want it. And I want Deanna to bug him about how much time he spent on the NX-01 sim.

"Surely NOT!" :D

It's funny, over in the SNW thread with SPOILERS at the top people are using the spoiler tags like they're about to run out!

Speaking as someone who thinks there should be spoilers tags until the episode actually airs to the general public (And I have complained about that in the past), the reason I used spoilers was because the episode came out a day early. I was trying to be considerate.

Doesn't have to be Will Riker. (In DS9, he was Tom Riker.) For DISCO and SNW, Frakes can be an ancestor or descendant of Riker. Hell, he could be an entirely different character.

Joking aside, I am curious to see if season 5 of DISCO will actually be absent of a Frakes appearance. If that happens, it will be the first finished ST series to not have him since he was cast as Riker.

(Not a dig at him, because I love his appearances and he's a fun guy. But I sometimes wonder if there is a behind the scenes game between the shows on 'how can we get Frakes on screen for this show?')
He does love his cameos. He directed 2 of the 3 Librarian movies and has cameos in both.

To hold that streak he'd have to be in S2 of Prodigy (which is almost finished being made, right?) and eventually appear on SNW, yes?

Warp factor 5, 6, 7, 8!
PRO has already had hologram versions of several characters, so why not Riker?

I'd love to see how creative they can be in doing a Frakes cameo on SNW. They could even make him an alien like Fillion was in GotG!

Well, Leonard Nimoy was the original, even in the very first pilot. ;)
.
Only because something was the first or the original doesn't automatically make it the best. Look at Ancient Athenian democracy. That was not a good system when compared to modern democracy.

That being said I do think Nimoy was very good in the role. I just don't think something being "the original" or "the first" automatically makes it good/better.
Ethan Peck is doing a very good job with the role too.

The director kids dont know how to Star Trek

From where I stand about half of them do and are very good at it.

And Leverage.

(that reminds me, I think I haven't watched 'The Cage', ever, might have to do something about that.
*sputter!* Have you seen The Menagerie? (That's really really close.)

It's not because he was the first. It's because he was the best. And by some measures the only.

Seriously, people can't even figure out how to do passable IMITATIONS of Nimoy's Spock from TOS. They get pieces but never the whole. He is incomparable and inimitable. He's laid back and tense. He's angry and almost serene. He also has an accent that no one has bothered to imitate. (It's a Not Boston Accent.)

His performance in TMP is a tour de force. But it's not TOS Spock. And he's really really good in TWOK. But it's also not TOS Spock. And I fear to say after that it kind of became shtick.

Call yourself a fan!

Impressionists imitate.

Actors interpret.

I think Leonard Nimoy's take on Spock was the best. He invested a lot into the character, created a lot for the character himself (including the nerve-pinch and the Vulcan Salute), and was extremely protective of the character to the point where he would argue head-to-head with those who wrote Spock out of character or slighted him. He didn't just play that character, he made that character. In a lesser actor's hands, Spock would've been lesser.

Ethan Peck does a good Spock. I buy him more as Spock than I do Zachary Quinto.
