Episode 6 is where the season finally elevates itself. The origin story doesn't always make sense but at face value it's an excellent tale. 9/10 for me.
The Sound of Thunder is actually one of Discovery's best episodes. I'm really looking forward to revisiting that one on my rewatch later this year.
It really changed the growth of the character. Saru is one of Trek's most developed ones!
Was that the episode where he lost the Ganglia? If that's the case it was one of the biggest doses of character development we've seen in this series. It was when I started to really like Saru. There was much more to that episode than just being a origin story.
I'm up to "Project Daedalus". Disco Spock is an asshole.
EDITED TO ADD: "Project Daedalus" is my favorite episode of the second season up to this point. It captures so much of Discovery, down to Burnham's character strengths and flaws alike.

I am with you. New Eden is one of my favorite DISCO episodes. Probably top 5. Top 10 certainly.
I know it's a fan favorite which is fine.
I think there are 10 episodes from season 2 alone that are better than it is though.
In a few days I hope to start my Discovery Rewatch. I'm actually excited to revisit this series, especially the early years now that we are 7 years from when this show premiered. I remember when I rewatched the first season before I actually had a more positive feeling towards it then the first time, except for what they did to Lorca. I probably expect to have the same kind of feeling.
Putting on a bunch of Season 3 momentarily. I'm on "Forget Me Not". Let's see if I can make it up to at least "Unification III".
I guess I can post my thoughts as I go in this thread. I have finally started a Discovery rewatch and those first two episodes felt kind of uneven. Everytime we had the Klingon scenes, they spoke so slowly it brought the episodes to a screeching halt. I also wish they had not killed Georgiou.

In "Forget Me Not", at the end, Adira says all the previous hosts' memories are still coming to them. I think, based on what we see later, they never do all come back. There's probably a limit on what Adira can process from previous lives, being a Non-Trill. That's the Head Canon I'm going with.
But, much more important, I love that they had Saru trying to bring the crew together in something that, to me, looks like Thanksgiving. And then a fight breaks out between Stamets and Detmer. To quote Tilly, "That was like a Tuesday at my house, when growing up." Then, at the end Zora comes up with the idea of showing everyone a Buster Keaton movie. I don't talk about this often here (it's not usually relevant) but the Early-20th Century (pre-1930) is my favorite historical period. I love those early movies, I love those early cars, I like the styles, the music. So Zora and I share a love for that time period.
I forgot that one of Tal's previous hosts played the violin. Discovery should've had more of Adira playing the violin. It's reminiscent of TNG when a member of the crew would play an instrument.

I think one of the great things about the passage of time is watching these episodes without it being a huge story in fandom. What I mean is an episode like Context is for Kings really works the more distance you get from when it originally aired because while there might have been arguments at the time, this episode was really great now, especially having seen the first two episodes as well. That scene between Lorca and Burnham at the end of the episode where it ends with him asking Burnham if she wanted to help him end it was one of the better scenes of the new Trek era. It's a shame what they did to him at the end of the season because at the beginning of this season, I could have compared him to Seasons 1-6 (Prior to Waltz) Gul Dukat. He was that interesting of a character.
Watching "Into the Forest I Go" and the jump sequence was one of the more intense moments of NuTrek. I also appreciated during that sequence, the Klingons were speaking English because it really helped keep the pacing of the episode fast.
16 episodes left. 8 weeks until the season premiere. If I average two episodes per week until then, I'll have met my goal of finishing Season 4 right before Season 5. So I'll be able to proceed at a comfortable pace instead of cramming it all in. I'm impressed actually. I started this at the end of October and have, more or less, stayed on track.
I'm happy it didn't. Its real tie-in is with the novels.
I've decided to do a season 4 rewatch from start to finish. So I'm not really on track with anyone here, but the intention is the same.
I'm looking for how it all ties in together. My goal is 2 episodes a night but not necessarily every night.
I will report on my lack of progress.
Finished Season 1 and that final episode was not great. The speech was a little self indulgent, and the end of the Klingon War was rushed. I have decided to include the Short Treks in this rewatch so if I get the order right, I'm watching the first four short trek episodes before moving onto season 2.
Calypso hits a lot differently than it did when it originally aired. I actually remember being in a minority and not liking the episode all that much. It felt more soap opera than Star Trek to me. Now that we know more about Zora, I liked this episode a lot more. I’m really excited to revisit Zora’s arc on this rewatch and I wouldn’t mind seeing Craft again. I know it’s pretty unlikely, but it was actually a worthy entry into the Discovery story.

The Sound of Thunder is still one of the best episodes in Discovery's run. So much backstory on Saru and the Kelpians. This was the episode where Saru became my favorite character on the series.
