2023 Discovery Rewatch

Vulture

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
So the final season will air 2024, could be January. Only Kurtzman knows.
That being said, I wanna rewatch S2-4 leading up to the end of the last week in December 2023.
Spaced out 1 ep per week, skipping S1 cause of reasons.
This week begins with:
DIS 2x1 Brother

If you don't want to mention it, that is absulotely ok. But I am a bit curious why you're skipping season 1.

I would love to rewatch Discovery, but since Im in the Netherlands I could only watch 1-3 on Netflix. I had a chance to watch 4, fortunately enough. But it's not available for streaming anymore. :(

I'm re-watching all of Disco, including the Shorts, before Season 5.

I've been so caught up in PIC (and revisiting any Trek relevant to it) that I have to re-orient myself afterwards.

I think I'm gonna start from the actual beginning. I loved S1 (though the first episode was kind of problematic).

I'm planning a Discovery rewatch when I get back from the Trek convention in Las Vegas, so middle of August through September.

Timing mostly, would have had to start this 15 weeks ago to sync it with the end of 2023, and we didn't know about the S5 reschedule 15 weeks ago.
Also S1 ain't that great.

And as a nice bonus, it's great to rewatch some Captain Pike content prior to SNW S2 in 10 weeks.

Alright, we are at week 2.
DIS 2x2 New Eden
I like this one, for sure one of the best of the season.
I enjoyed the twist it took on religion.
I liked Michael admitting Science was her religion.
Very clever episode.

The red angel stuff was too much of a JJ Abrams mystery box.
It's the heart of the island all over again.

I rate it 9 Andys.

My second least favorite of season 2. It also wound up feeling pointless when it wasn't followed up on. It's not a bad episode, but other episodes felt a lot more important.

That's funny cause I liked it for the same reasons you didnt.
It felt "episodic". Essentially a standalone ep umong the rest of the season.
Felt like the beginnings of SNW right here.

Ash has a righteous beard in this week's installment:
DIS 2x3 Point Of Light.
The Son of Voq could have been their Baby Yoda.
Ash could put a Breen helmet on and take the creed. This Is The Way.

Also. Too much Tilly and her friend. Awful.
Big fan of Amanda and all appearances there of.

I love "Point of Light". It's the true epilogue to Season 1. Combine that with the Season 2 elements, and -- love it or hate it -- this is the Definitive Early-Discovery Episode. I'm not saying it's the best one. I'm saying it's the most archetypical one, Pre-Burn.

My least favorite of the season. I do think this is the best the Klingons have looked in 25 years though, including the SNW ones.

It's Monday night! You know what that means?Tonight:
DIS 2x4 An Obol For Charon
Encounter At Sphere point.
Revenge Of The Sphere.
Tower Of Babel.
Saru's new evolution.
Tig as Reno is the best part of this show. Love her.

This is my first time weighing in on the subject. And this probably won't surprise some, but...
including the SNW ones.
I'm not impressed with the SNW Klingons. At all. If this were a TOS Movie, that would be the Klingon makeup they'd put on the background actors who'd be deep, deep in the background, and the camera wouldn't be able to pick them up very well, so it wouldn't matter.

That's my take.

I skipped ep 6 cause Saru's orgin bores me.
But this week I'm Trekking along with:
DIS 2x7 Light and Shadows.
The ep opens with Michael quoting her mother.
She puts the fun in dysfunction.
