Happy Captain Picard Day! The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard is coming home in September to DVD and Blu-ray, with over 2 1/2 hours of special features. There will also be a special box set for the full series and a “Legacy Collection” for the full Jean-Luc Picard saga on TV and movies......

More at link.....

I was almost an instant purchaser of this, particularly the Picard Legacy edition, when it was announced then saw it was HD only :/

Sigh. I don't understand in 2023 that they're only broadcasting shows in HD only and also for the physical release.

I haven't bought any physical video media since 2014 when TNG season 7 and the All Good Things special was released. A 4K/UHD version of this would have changed that...

A Change.org petition for a UHD release for PICARD has been launched.

As explained by Bill Hunt of the Digital Bits: "Yes, the season wasn’t technically finished in 4K. But neither was James Cameron’s Avatar. And 20th Century Studios has recently AI-upsampled that film to stunning 4K. Not only does the film look great on 4K UHD (I have the disc in hand), it greatly benefits from high dynamic range, deep color, and the much higher data rates afforded by 4K UHD over regular Blu-ray.

Keep in mind, post production for modern films and TV shows is typically done at a color depth of around a 16 bits. And I have confirmed that Picard: Season Three already has a 12-bit HDR DCI-P3/D65 Dolby Vision master! So properly upsampled, it will look absolutely fantastic on physical 4K UHD."

The Abramsverse films were only mastered in 2K. Many MCU films are only 2K. So they do have a strong case.

I hope the full series box comes out in the rest of the world too. I'd buy that right away.

How do you have the Avatar 4K? It’s not out yet.

I don't have it... Bill Hunt does. He's run the main news website for physical media going on two decades, so receives many review copies. He's also a major Star Trek fan, and has advocated for various releases over the years. So when he says if demand exists for PICARD on UHD the studio might move on it, he's worth listening to.

Season 3 steelbook will be an instant pre-order when it comes available in the UK, but I do hope it gets a UHD release like SNW S1.

Picking up this Blu-Ray. Whether you like PIC Season 3 or not (and obviously I like it a lot), you have to admit that Terry Matalas put a lot of thought into the season. He did PIC Season 2 before, and he might go on to do Legacy or some other Star Trek, but PIC Season 3 is what he's going to be most known for in Star Trek World. Just like TWOK is Nick Meyer and Harve Bennett's, PIC Season 3 is Terry Matalas'. So I'd be very interested in seeing his insights on how he put it together, how he connected the dots, and why he did what he did. I think it would be very insightful.

So more than usual, I hope there's a lot of Commentary Tracks. I hope there's at least one for each episode. I'll be very disappointed if there isn't.

I want to get this on dvd when it comes out in a few months.I hope they'll have some deleted scenes and some commentary about season 3 too.

It’s missing the DS9 pilot. Picard was in that as well.

And is a quintessential episode - Some of it is bending the character to fit the script, but it's written so well - and acted by Brooks and Stewart even better. It's a must see.

Easily picking up S3 of PIC. Maybe the entire legacy collection, since a couple of the TNG-R bly-rays have developed bit rot faults. :( The other upside to that is getting PIC S1 and S2 included and, given the masterstroke of invasion set up in S3, it will ground and add badly needed context to what seemed like bizarre choices early in the show, what with replicator technology and all existing - or seeming to and that's what people remembered... (the acting was damn good, but the scripts definitely were headscratchers and not as memorable, at times. Why would Raffi whine on and on abo-- it really doesn't matter, now knowing the events of S3. In other words that fill in the gaps; reviewing S1 might bring a fresh response. PIC starting out arguably unfocused but managing to retroactively tie most things together in a satisfying way takes a ton of talent. (if anything, the series never really kept it consistent with Picard's newfound robot body, and even Q could have snapped his fingers... given his return in the tail end of season 3, Q's dialogue undid directly his lesser bits from season 2, so why not include snapping away the guff about Picard's "robot body with built in off switch to simulate death". It'll be easy enough to roll with. I just wish they had a more consistent focus for actually doing it and then going the extra mile or letting Q wave it all away, which I was hoping for...

Can't wait to add this to my collection.

I wonder if we'll get PROD S1.5 by then? There is talk they're finally doing a release, but with my luck, it'll be a full 20 episode set and my first half set will have to be duplicated.

Check this out...
I pre-ordered Prodigy Vol 2 episodes 11-20 on Blu-Ray at Target's website and it's supposed to be available in late September.

I think it's safe to say all 20 episodes of Prodigy S1 are safe, but S2's the one that's at risk of never being released and ending up in a vault if Paramount fails to find another provider that's willing to stream it.

Cool set.

I won't be watching this season again till the blurays...well see how much of it I can stomach.

I might splurge and get the full series box set. I think I need to put all the trek series back on Physical Media (Started with Prodigy) and I appreciate Picard coming out with a complete series box. Hopefully Discovery might do something similar next year.
