Astra's TOS action figures in action

Astra

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I have a thread with funny pictures with ENT action figures over in the Enterprise forum:

https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/astras-action-figures-in-action.311142/

and it was suggested to me to do a similar thread in here with TOS figures. Would you guys enjoy it? If not, I know at least one who would, so here it is especially for you, @TheAdmiralty !

Let's start at the very beginning. I was very late to the fandom, I first saw TOS in 2015. Growing up in East Germany this had not been in my childhood, and later I thought it was too late. Once I had started I fell in love pretty quickly and looked up ebay for action figures. But I only could find the 4,5" Playmates ones. They're cute, but a bit small and comical, and I prefer 7" and more realistic faces.

One day I went into Forbidden Planet in Cardiff and there were these by Diamond Select Toys.
I had no idea they existed. Seeing and buying was one. I always love little playsets for setting up scenes. These are not figures with many joints, instead you can switch out the legs and arms, and do a proper Spock kneeling pose which you cannot do with the other figures.

And this was the very first picture I created with them. The aliens were part of Chupa Chups lollies.

Aside of thinking up funny comics, I also like to recreate scenes from the show. Here is one from the episode "Friday's Child".

Then I went to visit a friend and she said to bring my figures with me. We looked around her apartment what things to use to set up scenes. She had this original sized Tribble and so the TOS crew got to study it!

Scotty was not too impressed though.

Did you know that Tribbles lay eggs?

I also like to customize figures:

I'll stop for now but this is only the beginning. There is more, way more which I will post over time, and better backgrounds and better accessories and proper comics.

I must say I have learnt a lot doing these also. When watching movies or TV I pay more attention to the backgrounds, how they are created, and how the blocking / setup is. With several people in a group, they always stand in a way that no face is hidden. That is important.

Dye the tribbles pink and you get the TAS "More Tribbles More Troubles".

Hehe, no need! I do have pink Tribbles! I never did anything with them, but I will make a scene especially for you.

Outstanding! I'm very glad you posted these. The "Friday's Child" scene is wonderful.

Thank you! There is not much to it, only a few pebbles and the background is a calendar picture, but sometimes the simplest things are the best. I do love this one too. And I love the Spock kneeling legs, with a normal figure (when it is not double knee-jointed) you only can bend the knees at 90 degrees.

Very accurate recreation of Shat Fu. Good to see Spock reunited with his old friend the Horta.

Shat Fu? Is that an official term? :D
Thank you! I also made a proper Horta story. This was one of those cases where I looked through my boxes and found those metal balls that I had purchased for no particular reason. They were perfect as Horta eggs!

And the mangled Kirk got used in this story:

Every time I see these threads I think of the time Brent Spiner was on The Big Bang Theory.

Well I am with him there. I unwrap them all to have fun. Where's the fun in staring at them in their boxes? ;)

Actually the term is "Kirk Fu."
Ah! That I have heard before!

Okay, where were we?
After finding those Diamond Select Toys figures in the shop I bought everything I could get my hands on. The next to arrive was the Kirk with reading glasses, so this counts as my first proper story.

All I had wanted to do was this little scene of him reading, but then someone picked up that he was reading the Book of Origin from the Stargate SG-1 fandom and that it also was the weather stone on the shelf and this comment inspired me to do a continuation. So if you like, keep your comments coming, you never know what they might lead to and you may get a story dedicated to you!

As you can see I had reached watching the movies by that time. And in the audio comments it was said that there was supposed to be a scene where Kirk is getting Bones to return but he is happy treating wild cats. Since we did not get to see that, I took matters into my own hands:

I love these! Please don't stop sharing them, haha.
Thank you! I will! I have lots more to share.

I love getting inspiration from watching the show so when I reached Kirk chopping wood in the Nexus, I thought it would be a good time to get the toys out.

He even has rabbits!

And then I was still fascinated at that stance of the legs with no knee joints from the set where Kirk fights Khan and found this perfect use for it. We have heard there was a bowling area at the Enterprise, but we never saw it. Until now ;)

There's this picture of William Shatner with his bike, so I put my Captain Kirk on one! I took these in my lunchbreak at work in a nearby park.

And in the Star Trek episode "Requiem for Methuselah" Spock was playing a waltz at the piano, and Kirk and Rayna were dancing. I don't have a Rayna but just let Kirk dance with other women. With whom does he have the best chemistry?

Wraith Queen (Stargate Atlantis):

Teyla (Stargate Atlantis):

Felicity (Arrow):

Uhura (Star Trek):

OMG - the marching band! I love it!! I didn't even know anyone made a full set of figures in the Wrath of Khan uniforms - including Terrell, no less! That's fantastic!

The marching band was amusing and I liked that they all had suitable instruments- bagpipes for Scotty, harp for Uhura, balalaika for Chekhov

Oh yes, these are all by Diamond Select Toys! I prefer them over the smaller Playmates. There is also a Khan to go with them, plus a Saavik but by the time I got interested she was so expensive, that I did not get her so she is missing from the collection.

I paid 150 bucks for Bones alone!

ROFL, OMG these are F'n awesome!

:guffaw:

I'm happy you like them ;) I really always thought of a marching band when seeing these uniforms. I borrowed the instruments from my father's Christmas tree...

... and the black guy gets the saxophone! Thanks for noticing! I did indeed give it some great thought. I wasn't sure whether to post them all at the time, but if you like, here is everyone with his instrument:

I also had gotten a helm console for the bridge but then realized I did not own a Chekov. So this guy had to substitute for him.

But then I remembered, that I have a Chekov, just an older version:
