Those would be handy against quite a number of people, most people don't expect sniper shots to come from behind a building, usually it requires a "Line of Sight" =D
Now Imagine if the bullet had a mini Anti-Matter War-Head.
Imagine what a sudden explosion in a close room would do.
Or even 3mm³ of explosive, like that arm bomb in "Reunion". Put that stuff in your TR-116 transport-a-bullets, and you can splatter Jem'Hadar all over the walls from the safety of a bunker. You could probably start obliterating them when they're still doing their "I am dead" mantra.
You can be MANY MANY km away with Transporter Signal Booster / Repeater to enhance your effective range.

I don't think any explanation would matter to them. They've probably heard every conceivable (and possibly even every inconceivable, to us, as humans at least) line of reasoning against assimilation from species all over the galaxy. And they rejected or ignored those explanations. So if you were to attempt to explain it to them, it would be wasting your time, or perhaps only for the goal of letting you feel better about it - which, in a minute or so, you won't care about anymore anyway, after you've been assimilated as well.
So the only thing would seem to be to actually resist rather than explain.
