You don't have to let them listen to you,just let them understand the importance of individuality
What do you think a being could assert that they have not heard before?

Like everything else, I would use my Jedi mind trick.
I will give them a written affidavit (also filed with my local courthouse) that I do not consent to any form of assimilation and that I also do not owe any taxes to the Federation Customs & Revenue Office nor do I need a license to pilot my starship in Ledosian space.
It is not my concern that you lack the perfection to develop your own technology.
I'd tell them that I don't like being forced but would be willing to listen to the benefits if they would like to discuss it :-)
