The Oakland Athletics have reached an agreement with Bally's and Gaming & Leisure Properties to build a potential stadium on the Tropicana hotel site along the Las Vegas Strip.

Bally's Corp. made the announcement Monday for a 30,000-seat stadium on the 35-acre site. The project is expected to cost about $1.5 billion, and the A's are asking for nearly $400 million in public support from the Nevada Legislature, which could vote on a proposal this week.

The Nevada legislature has to vote on it soon, because they only meet bi-annually. If it doesn't get addressed in this session, then it won't come up again until 2025.

But fuck that $400 million in public subsidies. Absolute horseshit.

Dem guys is use't to rakin' and shakin' out change, so no biggie to them. Pull the one armed bandit again is their mantra.

Doesn't change the fact that public subsidies for private enterprise is bullshit, and every single argument saying that public financing of sports facilities leads to economic gain for a municipality has been debunked since the late '90s.

Agreed.

I don't like the idea that an owner can run a team into the ground at the expense of the fans and then be rewarded by moving the team to another city.

The sCrUBS finally scored some runs, had a 6-1 lead and then of course managed to cough it up and lose 7-6.

The formerly reliable relievers are now becoming generally worthless.

I guess the 4 or 5 games above .500 team was the outlier.

Mike Trout has passed Junior Griffey on the career bWAR leaderboards.

He is only 31 years old.

Also, my nightmare is over. The Cubs have designated Hosmer for assignment.

Still a better defensive 1B than Mancini as a backup.

I'm wondering when Wisdom gets a bus ticket to Iowa. Dude's been swinging at absolutely everything and leads the team in K's by 10 (54, tied for 4th in MLB). Even Suzuki has been picking it up lately and he was looking very much like a bust for a few weeks.

Not anytime soon. The only person with a higher difference between their AVG and SLG than Patrick Wisdom is Max Muncy.
  1. Max Muncy LAD (.222/.570)
  2. Patrick Wisdom CHC (.238/.577)
  3. Nolan Gorman STL (.295/.629)
  4. Aaron Judge NYY (.279/.612)
  5. Brent Rooker OAK (.295/.605)
  6. Sean Murphy ATL (.268/.575)
  7. Pete Alonso NYM (.234/.539)
  8. Luis Robert, Jr. CHW (.273/.564)
  9. Adolis Garcia TEX (.258/.541)
  10. James Outman LAD (.264/.541)

I got a question for all the Braves fans in the house...

Would you do the Chop when you are in someone else's ballpark?

Reason I ask is when I was on the baseball tour last week and we came to Globe Life Field, the Rangers were playing the Braves...and getting their asses handed to them. So the Atlanta fans were doing the chop during the game (natch) and also outside the stadium. Now I'm not judging the Chop itself, I'm just wondering if it's considered normal to do it on the road.

(I've been to games before where the Braves were the visiting team, but this is the first time I've ever seen the fans do the Chop anywhere but Atlanta. And as I said, the Braves were absolutely murdering the Rangers that night, so I guess it's no surprise...)

Oh well. It was hard to watch that game but at least I had pizza flavored hot dogs. So there's that.

Aaron Hicks has been DFA'd by the Yankees.

Now who couldn't see THAT coming.

Edit: David Bell is HILARIOUS to watch when he's being ejected. :guffaw:
