Things that frustrate us all

The one bitchy relative who is late for EVERY. DAMN. THING. Everyone, even my 89 year old mother, has to wait for her, no matter what.

If you are ALWAYS late, you are an immature narcissist-- period.

I had a similar issue when I was married.

If my ex-wife was the reason we were late for anything, I was supposed to be patient and just wait.

If I was the reason we were late for anything, I was worse than Satan.

It's not necessarily something that frustrates me so much as just confuses me. A lot of the sanctuaries are offered "donation matches" and there are two different versions, one the person will double every donation they get that they get, so if I donate $10 they'll add another $10 to make it $20. But there's also a second a version that I don't get, the person will say if you get a certain amount in donations is this amount of time I'ld double it. So for instance if the sanctuaries can get $5,000 by the end of the day, they'll donate another $5,000 to make it $10,000, but what I don't understand is why, if the person has $5,000 they can donate, why they games like that instead of just donating the money. It just sucks, because if they can't make the $$$ for the match, then they're missing out on all of the money.
It's typically to try and drive in more donations because it sounds like a better deal. It's a bit of a psychological effect that makes people more likely to donate. So, the idea is to incentivize the donations, especially for lesser known causes.

I'm not sure why they do that, but NPR runs those types of matches all the time. I *think* it's to entice new people to donate.
I guess I can see that, it just feels like of a crappy tease if they aren't able to get the donations and miss out on all that money.

it seems to be that type of week. My heartfelt commiserations to all injured and sick.
I spent most of the moring removing tiny rose thorns from my fingers under the microscope. My mom has a few particularly bristly specimens that the storm on Saturday evening tore off the trellis. Imagine the botanical answer to the porcupine and you get an idea

My wife made cookies for us to eat after dinner. She only had a couple, as usual. However, I had the rest. ALL of the rest. There were only 10, but they were big.

My frustration? My belly was not particularly happy with me. This saddens my inner cookie monster.

This would never have been the case 10 years ago. Or even 5 years ago. But age is not an ally to your metabolism.

(Skeletor voice) I hate aging!

I love the new Rangers ballpark, but did my first game there HAVE to be a 12-0 asskicking by the Braves?

And did the :censored:ing Atlanta fans have to do the chop? It wasn’t even their ballpark! :sigh:

Edit: Houston traffic  :brickwall: :wtf: :wah: :barf:

Yeah, my flight home leaves at noon but I made it a point to call for the cab to IAH at 6:30.

Edit: They’ve changed gates on me FOUR FUCKING TIMES since I got here! :scream:

Red light runners, especially a school bus because the light for opposite side traffic went green. Not fucking safe.

That's a daily occurence here. Multiple places and times a day. Dangerous morons.

Years ago while waiting to go forward, someone ran the red light on Kendall and 147th. Crashed right into the car that was making the proper left green arrow turn. Hit him so hard and was going so fast that the left turning car was flung backwards toward me. Missed my truck by probably less than a foot.

It's precisely why I tell my niece and nephew often to wait a couple seconds and check before you go forward, even if your light just turned green.

That's crazy and yeah it seems to be getting worse. My eldest is going to be of driving age in a year and she has started practicing driving observations and how to be safe as she rides with me and my wife. And she has seen an accident because someone went at the wrong time.

It's sad and completely avoidable.

I would also be scared off my gourd during hurricane season.
Same here and my wife as well. My wife's business partner is from Florida and actually did a farmer's market in a hurricane. They had warning so she put up the sides on her canopy, stated it down, and held on to the center of it as the edges of the storm passed over. It was a $2000 dollar buy in so she felt it important to ride it out.

I could not.

Hurricane season IS a bit of a stressful time. Thankfully, we get a fair amount of warning when storms are coming, so we have plenty of time to get the shutters set up. And we don't live right next to water, so we don't have the same issues with flooding as many others here do.

Wind and debris are always the major concerns for us, though since the house is in a neighborhood that is considered zero lot (houses are pretty much right next to each other) and both houses next to us are taller than ours, we're fairly well protected on two sides, which allows us to focus efforts on the two more vulnerable sides.

My wife is definitely more afraid of the storms than I am, even though we both went through Hurricane Andrew when it came barreling through 30 years ago. While I am not fearless when it comes to hurricanes, I think going through Andrew made me a bit more calm when a storm does come.

Such things are definitely not for everybody, that's for sure. And everyone has different tolerances to different types of disasters. For example, I could never live in an area that had earthquakes on a semi-frequent basis... I can't swim and I don't like flying, so I am a total landlubber. The idea of the ONE place where I feel relatively secure, the ground beneath me, could just shake and break at any time? Too much for me.
