MLB 2023 Season: Rangers are going hunting for Snakes

I'm so fucking glad the Rays didn't move. At least now they only have to play in one shitty stadium and not two.

I admit I would like to see the exhibition games in Montréal start up again. I wonder if the commish is thinking about it.

Stop hitting Acuña. Just stop. No more contusions for my boy.
What about when he hits himself?

Atlanta Braves slugger Ronald Acuna Jr. was removed from Thursday's 6-3 win over the Miami Marlins out of precaution after he fouled a ball off his left knee in the sixth inning, just three days after he was removed against the New York Mets with a bruised left shoulder.

Dude is a magnet.

My Angels have a golden opportunity with 3 games against Texas and 3 against Houston at home this week.

Started with a nice comeback last night, the game at one point was 4-0 Texas. Angels win 5-4 in the 10th.

:techman:

That looked like it really hurt.

Yelich fouled one off his knee in 2019 and missed the remainder of that season. But it's all bone there, so it's gonna hurt like hell no matter what.

Miguel Amaya got his first MLB hit (dribbler under the 2B's glove) and RBI.

Also
Just 33 games into Willson Contreras' tenure with the St. Louis Cardinals, the team intends to remove him from the regular catching rotation and use him primarily at designated hitter and in the outfield.
Because that's the reason the Cards suck and not that their manager is an unqualified idiot and lost the team weeks ago.

Yelich's swing has never been the same after that, either.

Also, at the Cardinals taking their shiny, expensive new toy and stashing him at DH and OF barely a month into his five-year deal. Must be that "Cardinals way" I hear the Best Fans in Baseball talk about so often.

The bigger question is, does Marmol finish the season as manager?

I mean, the real problem is that the roster, as constructed, is terrible, and I'm laughing at them blaming Contreras for the dogshit rotation. That's on Mozeliak.

But ... Bill DeWitt is perfectly fine with mediocrity, so I expect Marmol to take the fall.

A lot, and I mean a LOT of people in comment sections have been ripping Marmol several new ones, especially after he called out O'Brien in the media, but not only then.

You'd know a lot more about the roster than I do. I'm just trying to keep up with the Cubs' new faces.

#STLCards manager Oli Marmol on Willson Contreras position switch: “One thing I want to make super clear: We’re not losing ballgames because Willson Contreras is catching.” Marmol said the decision was made after meetings w/ John Mozeliak, pitching coach Dusty Blake & Contreras.

"We are not losing games because Contreras is catching, which is why I have decided to publicly kick his ass out of the catching role to be replaced by our second- and third-string depth catchers."

I don't get to watch a lot of baseball (national broadcasts only, because of all the MLB.tv blackouts in Iowa), so today I learned that Adley Rutschman of the Baltimore Orioles--who absolutely owns--uses the RoboCop march as his walk-up theme.

I didn't think he could own any more, but there he goes and does that.

Well that was disappointing.

Tough to win when you give up 26 runs in 2 games.

:brickwall:

The Cardinals can't stop stepping in it.

“Obviously the Cardinals were used to one guy behind the plate for close to two decades,” Mozeliak said. “The nuances of that position, maybe very subtle, are what a lot of our pitchers were used to. What we were seeing was a lack of confidence. Normally, you would say, why didn’t you address this in spring training? But in spring training, it’s so different in terms of what people are trying to work on. Pitchers are going a couple of innings. It doesn’t really count.

“With this, we’ve noticed a lot of puzzling trends we know we need to fix. We know we need to address it. … We just decided to do it head on, put it out there. Do we think we’ve seen Willson catch his last game? No. But this is going to take a little time to get him to where we feel he understands the expectations of what this role is for us.”

"We signed Contreras assuming we could turn him into Yadi Molina immediately and that didn't happen, so now he needs a timeout."

Everyone's going to IL -- Fried, Yarbrough, Cleavinger could be out for the season.

Because baseball in Florida is already so popular that the Marlins' and Rays' stadiums are packed.

In other news, per Oli Marmol, Willson Contreras will be catching on Monday:

“We felt really good about the progress that we've made, and it lines up really well for him to catch on Monday with Jack (Flaherty) on the mound.”

Boy, I'm sure glad that experiment turned out well. (Translation: Contreras told them to fuck off and probably said he'd demand a trade.)
