The Flash - Final Season Discussion

I’m guessing this is the new “post crisis” version of this situation since the original version was a Flash that was more comic accurate who didn’t become said hero until 2020.

 

I'm not watching the show anymore, but I know I read somewhere (in an interview with one of the showrunners) that

the Legends were definitely coming back for an episode. Unless plans changed?

It was nice they brought Nicole Maines back as Nia Nal earlier this season, and I did catch that episode. I would love it if other Supergirl characters would return (especially Benoist as Kara), but given the way they promoted the hell out of Stephen Amell's appearance, I assume they would have already announced any other major guest spots by now.

 

Maybe Chester just really likes making costumes that Allegra doesn't like because he enjoys the rewards he gets every time he makes one she rejects.

 

His parents seemed a bit too friendly here. I would be creeped out if they acted that way around me. I would think they wanted to murder me

 

This is what rich older people do.

They pick up a homeless from the shelter, with all their teeth, delouse and hose them down, and then tie them up in their sex dungeon for use.

 

It was def an odd interaction. Especially how they kept referring to a 30 year old man as a 'boy'. Maybe if they were like 70 year olds, but it's 2000 so Henry Allen is like 45, Nora is 41.

 

Well, he is pretty boyish.

I just assumed they sort of subliminally sensed he was their son, so they reacted accordingly without really understanding why.

 

Sympathetic Vibrations.

The Flash intuitively vibrates at a specific frequency, so that every one likes him and trusts him. Everyone within a few feet of him feels just a little bit drunk.

If this was true, and it's true of some super hero some where, I'm not sure who, but I half remember something like this from comics, and it would make the Flash as rapey as Starfox.

This week's episode was awesome -- definitely the way to end the series... tie up some things of the past with something fresh. While I preferred Tom Cavanaugh as Thawne, Matt Letscher was really good in this, and it was a perfect way for Flash to "defeat" Thawne -- show him how his plan ultimately failed. But this happens before he becomes Wells, so perfect for the way they zig zag into each other's histories.

(I hear Tom Cavanaugh will be back as Thawne in the finale -- which will be just perfect!)

OK, the deal with Barry and his parents seemed a tad forced...but at the same time, felt like he could say goodbye to them in a "healthy" way.

And of course, the mystery starts regarding Rick Cosnett's new character. But this one looks good

The Green Arrow reunion was almost as good as this last episode... Definitely the best of the season at that point. It also definitely came full circle with Oliver as well, and an excellent goodbye for him. Bloodwork is actually a fairly good villain,certainly as far as motivations, and being te "hero of his own story"... but the invading the multiverse thing -- it felt as small and cheap and anti-cosmic as the Crisis mini series However, I am was very glad they finally addressed the multiverse, and clearing up this "alternate timeline" idea that was being pushed. And good to see Wally again -- the actor was perfectly cast as Iris' brother, and i hope the 2 decide to play brother and sister again elsewhere.
Now, did you guys notice wat seemed like in-episode continuity errors? The first was when the people in the city were freaking out when Flash arrived on the scene. BLoodwork hadn't arrived yet, so there wasn't reason to freak out. But then later, in the episode, when it seemed like Bloodwork did take over the city, there were cars driving around in the background, like it was a normal thin.

The rest of the season felt like someone had opened a drawer and said "Hey, did we pay for these old scripts? I guess we need to use them!" with storylines that felt recycled (or at leats uninspired)..
And some ridiculous things with the cast... instead of having Joe move out of town -- why not simply say he is at a place in his life where he needs to stay home and protect Jenna? As they did in an episode, just have him video conference if they ever needed him to communicate. I know he has his own show, but they didn't need to make Jesse Martin recurring like that -- he was very much featured in this latest episode.

And Khione??? It's like Tom Cavanaugh all over again --- they like the actor , but are stuck creatively with the character. so they make up a new one for no real reason. It kinda feels like Ezri Dax, but less connection. (John Wesley Schipp feels like the only one where he played multiple characters, but it didn't feel like overkill)
And i guess this was also to give Mark something to do...I will say it gave the actor a chance to show he has legit acting chops (and also gave him an excuse to take off his shirt). Just like the actor who played Painkiller in Black Lightning... they better get some significant roles soon, or else they need to fire their agent ASAP.

So, 3 more episodes??? So, we just have to have Cisco in some featured moment.

For a professional writer, you seem to miss what connects with audiences.

"You have failed this universe" would have been terrible at least in the Flash. I mean, maybe if that was said during Arrow, we could ride with that variation. But it totally loses context when in another show.

However, i will agree that in context of the story, it didn't really make sense,since Bloodwork was planning on making his conquest mutliversal.

Well they didn't have too. They already did it at the beginning with a variation of "Barry, what did you do this time?"

Barry could have passed for early 20's (especially how he talked), and Henry especially has seen some things already in life. I think it was weirder that they were willing to bring him home (which ironically, could have saved their lives)

I am willing to give it a pass, becuase it worked for me.

 

I’ll be bummed if Cisco isn’t back for one of these three episodes. I hope they’ve kept to tightly under wraps to the point where I will be delighted when he shows up but for some reason I’m thinking he won’t and will be disappointed.

 

Yeah, it would be a crime against the show if Cisco does not show up in the finale.

Since we are nearing the finale, I am curious. How do you all want the series to end? It goes without saying that there will be some epic speedster battle. But do we want it to end with Barry dying, becoming one with the Speed Force, retiring from being the Flash and living happily ever after or something else?

 

Becoming one with the Speed Force (these days) is akin to crawling back inside his mother.

 

No dying, no retiring. That's the wrong kind of closure for a show about a superhero. If the story is about someone trying to achieve a goal -- clear their name of murder charges, get to Alpha Centauri, defeat the occupying aliens, whatever -- then bringing their story to a conclusive end is satisfying. But if it's a show about characters with an open-ended goal -- protect the city, explore strange new worlds, advance the cause of science, whatever -- then having them give up doing it is a sad ending. I'd rather believe they're still out there doing it even when we don't get to see it.

Besides, we've already seen a future in which Barry and Iris are still alive and well as parents and mentors to Nora and Bart as they mature and begin their own superhero careers. The end goal of the series has to be to preserve that future, not erase it. The closure is presumably going to be the birth of baby Nora, the assurance that that future is on track the way it's supposed to be.

Beyond that, my hope for a finale would be a reconnection with the multiverse. The Flash's adventures continue, but with a door opened to new and greater possibilities. That would be a nice optimistic ending, and it would open the door for future guest appearances in other shows.

If I could have any finale I wanted, though -- if money and logistics were no issue -- I'd want the final scene to be all the Earth-Prime heroes assembling in the Hall of Justice to officially establish the Justice League as a permanent institution.

Not used to watching the episode with the east coast but I’m traveling and have seen the episode already. I have mixed feelings. I hate that with 3 episodes to go Barry was only in it for like 2 minutes. I also don’t like the Dues Ex Machina they are doing with Kione and wish they had started to explore this new “goddess” thing sooner. It actually reminds me a little of the DEM for Willow in Buffy and I felt the same way.

I am liking the Eddie subplot and the flashbacks are helping considered I saw that episode like 9 years ago. Really, Eddie was the only good thing about this episode tonight.

 

They ignore Crisis a lot.

The original Flash who got struck with lightning in 2020 is never seen, but I assume that's why Eobard called Nora "Dawn" when they first met.

They used a lot of clips in this episode.

Our current day Flash is in the main fight.

Flash point Flash is hiding in the closet who is told to let mum die by a slightly older flash trying to reverse flash point.

Eobard killing mum and losing his powers are also clips from days gone by.

The weird bit is that young Eobard missidentifies our 2010 Flash for his 2020 Flash.

 

I’m surprised they didn’t mention the Tornado Twins more often. There is a novel that mentions them but that’s it.
All we have is the “Dawn” and the “at least you still have one”. Lines.
