The Least Disliked Episode 2023: DS9 Season 2

BlueStuff

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Our addictive biyearly game of rapid elimination returns - now with more shows than ever. It's generally a lot of fun, providing a chance to mentally revisit those episodes you may not have thought about in a while. With that in mind, why not play again?

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favourite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

I'm going to start by makimg "SECOND SIGHT" blind.

I just find the episode boring. (I hate saying this about a Sisko episode.) I did like having new views of the Nebula class ship and some look at its interior, though.

Agreed on Second Sight!

Melora is a pretty bad ROTW for Bashir, not even having any chemistry with Melora. Also, whilst was interesting having a disabled character feature, the way they designed her chair lacked any imagination.

I think "Paradise" is just a complete piece of shit. I kind of thought, like "Progress", it would be one of those I hated as a young person but found new depth in when revisiting as an adult. Turns out, nope -- I hate it at every age.

All aspects of this story ring completely false to me. I don't even think it fails in an interesting way, it's just trash. One of my most hated episodes of the full franchise.

I also don't appreciate how it benches half the cast. Are there any other episodes of Star Trek where this many of the regular cast are absent? I guess there's "Carbon Creek." There must be more (ugh, now I"m gonna be obsessed with this trivia question...)

"Crossover" - I don't particularly like the mirror universe. It feels a bit strange that 100 years have passed since "Mirror, Mirror" and all the DS9 characters in the mirror universe live in the same place as the DS9 characters in our universe.

Taking out "RIVALS".

It was a waste of Chris Sarandon. But at least the episode had a good O'Brien/Bashir side story.

"Playing God" is a bit meh. Fun ideas, I love the DS9 A/B/C story structure, but it doesn't quite gell.

Taking out "SANCTUARY".

The Skreeans annoyed me because they were given an entire planet, but made Kira feel bad for not sharing Bajor? That was just entitled behavior, and I can't stand entitled brats.

I'll go with Profit and Loss. It's a slightly better ROTW than Melora was, but it's nothing special.

I quite like the majority of these episodes left so it's tougher for me now.

Armageddon Game, I don't like how the entire rescue hinges on Keiko being shown as not knowing that Miles drinks coffee in the afternoon. This joke at the end was dumb and unnecessary.

Taking out "INVASIVE PROCEDURES".

Another Dax episode where she is barely even in it. And Quark really should have had some consequences.

I guess not, Kira.

Tribunal exits next. An interesting look at Cardassian "justice", but the other episodes are stronger, IMO.

As much as I love seeing Odo's relationship with the girl in Shadowplay, it feels like a fairly average episode. especially compared to the remaining ones.

I always thought this episode needed some Space Magic to make the metaphor work better. The space of Star Trek is infinite, there really is always another great planet to find -- unlike in our real world, where there isn't an infinity of perfect options to send refugees to. They needed some plot device to create more scarcity for the Skreeans. Like their species can only survive longterm in a system where Whatever Radiation is present -- which the wormhole emits!

If the stakes are set as the Skreeans truly having only two options, Bajor or potentially endless wandering, then it all plays a lot better.

I like Cardassians quite a lot, and love all of the O'Brien family dinner scenes, with Rugal. The involvement of Garak and Dukat is also a delight.

The end, however, is a tad unsettling, and I completely disagree with the outcome of the hearing over custody of Rugal. The poor boy had is life turned upside down!
