Am I the Only One Who Desperately Craves a Captain Shaw Series?

I think I would have enjoyed seeing Shaw in Legacy, but I am so, so, so sick of characters coming back from the dead. That way lies creative stagnation and emotional dishonesty. Please, please, please let dead characters stay dead and gone.

I like Shaw a lot. He made a bigger impression than almost any other supporting character in this franchise since 2005. And he just needs to stay dead. He sacrificed himself to give Seven, his ship and Picard's crew enough time to get to safety and I'm fine with that. In real life good people often die ignominious and "boring" deaths while accomplishing something good.

For me, It would have been nice to see Shaw be captain for the first year of a Legacy series. To me Seven isn't ready to be a captain, she still needs some seasoning, Only been in Starfleet for what? 2-3 years? Shaw would have been a good teacher for her. Would kind of run into what they did with Burnham with her being #1 etc. Maybe put him as a commodore.. I don't know.. :brickwall:

She was clearly an important leader in the Fenris Rangers for over a decade. She's more than qualified to be a captain.

And Cadet Kirk WAS?

Shaw would have been a good teacher for her.

Shaw was a coward. He had the bridge crew hide in the ready room. He counted on Jack to bail him out!

Why must the women be forced to bite, kick, and scratch their way to the top?

Picard and Archer never had to do it. No one told Picard, "You're not ready."

Bad enough they brought back Data (AGAIN  ).

Well, if we take from the Great Clint Eastwood movie Heartbreak Ridge as an example.. Major came over from Supply to run an infantry unit... And it was a Cluster%&$ .

Now if she was in something that wasn't some paramilitary outfit, maybe. others have crossed over, Burnham for example, but for Seven, Except for 4 years 20 years ago, she doesn't know starfleet, how they do things etc. Why I said she needs some teaching before being set free.

Why I said I don't know.. Just would like Shaw in there somewhere. Kinda mute now

I don't particularly see how a Clint Eastwood movie is relevant here.

Service in a paramilitary outfit is more analogous to service in Starfleet than service in a civilian organization.

but for Seven, Except for 4 years 20 years ago, she doesn't know starfleet,

No, she actually knows Starfleet intimately because she held a position of leadership and trust aboard a Starfleet vessel for four years.

And she has the assimilated knowledge of countless Starfleet and other military officers.

Matalas talked about them bringing back Shaw in a clever way, but everything I can think of feels contrived.

Seven pumped nanoprobes into him which brought him back to life.
He's his own twin brother
Clone
Transporter duplicate
Time travel
Emergency Engineering Hologram
Mirror Universe Shaw (who wouldn't be a grumpy dipshit so what's the point?)
The Shaxs option (actually my favourite, he's just there and it's never explained why)
Same way Kirk has apparently been resurrected, the mysterious Phoenix Project.

what if he’s…not dead. Matalas said in interviews he was dead but as we all know…if you don’t see it…I mean he said Shelby survived and her getting shot looked a lot more fatal than what Shaw was hit with.

maybe he did survive, was promoted and given a “shore” assignment or a different ship. Or maybe he decided he’d had enough of this shit and retired.

Q magicked him back into existence.

When it came to Data, it's like, I wasn't born yesterday, so I fully understood there was no way they were going to bring back the entire TNG Cast and not have Brent Spiner. It wasn't going to happen. And Data's an android, an inherently sci-fi character, so there was more leeway.

With Shaw, there was no software to transfer his mind into. He wasn't launched onto the Genesis Planet. And, no offense to Shaw, but he's not Kirk or Picard, so it's not like Section 31 would keep his body in Cold Storage. He was a Nobody Captain and proud to be a Nobody Captain who did what he was told, followed the book, and had humble roots as a "grease monkey".

So bringing Shaw back to life would be extremely forced. Having him as a holodeck program feels cheap. Having Todd Stashwick play his twin brother would be like City SIickers II where Jack Palance's character said, "You thought I was dead didn't you!" It doesn't work.
