Considering how much Kirk drew him out over the course of TOS, Spock should be more aloof at this point in time. His only strong bonds should be with Pike and (to a lesser degree) Number One. IMO.We've never seen Spock "at this point in time," and only a couple of minutes of him as a second banana five or six years earlier.
Based on The Cage, it’s more logical (pun intended) to think something happens between the first time to Talos IV and WNMHGB that makes Spock a more stoic character—we just haven’t seen it yet (perhaps we never will).Considering how much Kirk drew him out over the course of TOS, Spock should be more aloof at this point in time. In other words, I just don't see him being comfortable enough to be joking around with his shipmates. Ever. After Star Trek IV, sure.
But even then he should still talk like Spock.
Did you miss where I wrote "His only strong bonds should be with Pike and (to a lesser degree) Number One. IMO."?Except he wasn't aloof with Pike. Spock clearly had a different relationship with this crew than Kirk, since he is willing to risk it all for Pike.
Hey, I'd love it if SNW did something like that Early Voyages comic book story where Spock was inspired to become less emotional after encountering a group of pre-reformation Vulcans. I thought that worked great!Based on The Cage, it’s more logical (pun intended) to think something happens between the first time to Talos IV and WNMHGB that makes Spock a more stoic character—we just haven’t seen it yet (perhaps we never will).
No, I did not.Did you miss where I wrote "His only strong bonds should be with Pike and (to a lesser degree) Number One. IMO."?

Is canon though, per the Trek website under "canon works" directory.
Absolute-fraggin-lutely! Like religious fundamentalism without a god (well, maybe Shatner). The obsession with canon is one of the worst things to happen to fandom.
I dunno. He seems to show a lighter side in WNMHGB and Mudd's Women ( any maybe others). Of course Nimoy and the writers hadn't quite found the character yet.Considering how much Kirk drew him out over the course of TOS, Spock should be more aloof at this point in time. Funny thing is is that I sometimes feel I can have longer conversations with religious fundamentalists about some topics than fans.Absolute-fraggin-lutely! Like religious fundamentalism without a god (well, maybe Shatner).
What the Thrawn story arc?
or TAS?
I try to black out most of season 3. Worst season opening episode and worst season/series ending episodes of any Star Trek show. Thank god for the movies.Yeah, this is pretty much my philosophy as well. I have no problem ignoring the wimpy Chapel from TOS, or the "Turnabout Intruder" idea that women can't be Starship Captains. Those were dumb ideas to begin with, and we shouldn't be beholden to dumb ideas.
Originally a character from a trilogy of books.Thrawn is, as I understand it, a character from Star Wars: Clone Wars and Rebels.
It's canon. Some of it my not be in continuity but it's part of the canon.
Just because there are crossover elements does not mean the source - TAS/STO/shatneerverse/novel'verse is canon.
