I think that you are forgetting that without the new trek series, this forum would eventually dwindle down to 8 members,
and in the end noone outside would really have any clue how good trek was.
i dont like new trek especially (i dont like tos either for that matter)..., i mostly watch ds9, ent, tng and voy,
for me, this is the best trek. But thankfully life moves forward, we cant be stuck in the past criticizing all things new.

Believe it or not but I liked it for the most part, the only decision in season 1 that I was really not okay with was killing off Culber but I liked the story, loved the mirror universe arc and the characters were all pretty good.

I guess I am religious about trek.
It's trek. I've never been to conventions, but the fact so many people have for the last 50 years says a lot.
Let's look at the orville. I am not a fan of Seth McFarlane, but at least his show feels so much like tng, that I enjoy it more than any nutrek, despite the awful jokes and humor (when will Seth learn he's not funny at all).
You would think with all this money and decades of knowing what works, they could release ONE SINGLE SHOW that's just like legacy trek.
The fact that they can't release ONE SHOW is what really upsets me. Now they wanna release a show of the academy, but in the 32nd century, a time no one cared about even in discovery, and it's too far in the future to make any sense. And the tech will look exactly like the 23rd century. These ideas are so idiotic. I imagine someone bringing it up on the boardroom, and everyone getting up and saying "omg you're a genius. Here you get a trillion dollar raise".
This is the level of intellect people have today?
And this sad, unfortunate phenomena is not limited to trek. I like lord of the rings. Look at the new show. TRASH. I really dislike star wars, but even the fans hate the new trilogy. And when they look back to episode 1-3, they realize it was far better than 7-9 released today. The 90s and early 2000s is where everything peaked. And has been on a decline since.

Spock, is cheating on his future mate being all emotional in disc and SNW, and this is supposed to be during the time he would have been his logical self? What in the fk? Spock isn't Spock at all. There are so many examples I'd be here for days.
My main strifes are, the characters have no depth/lack experience and intelligence/are arrogant, and, the stories are terrible..just terrible..anyone remember "the burn"? I bet when the moron who came up with that idea, everyone cheered and clapped like he's some sort of mega genius. This is the level of stupidity we are dealing with, and I'm convinced you people are choosing to overlook these major infractions and just deciding to accept it, because you can't accept the reality that our shows have truly been hijacked by talentless, inexperienced, arrogant hacks who have no love or understanding of what made trek great and why it generated one of the biggest fan bases of any show.
I may not like Shatners antics sometimes either, but he lived and worked with Roddenberry..he would be the first one to tell all of you that Roddenberry would find anything after st 2009 absolutely despicable, but now he's afraid to say it since he will get canceled by his own conformist of the status quo fans. Why are people so afraid to call out bs when they see it. So ok some random strangers will look at you with contempt, and they'll think your crazy for daring to stand up to the status quo, but who the hell cares what some cowardly fearful person says or thinks. They keep their mouth shut to fit in, and maybe have a few friends. They're terrified of speaking out and then being attacked not for their facts but their persona just for not bowing down to the status quo.
People have been complaining about how star wars sucks now or how the lord of the rings show sucks, and what do they get? They get blasted online, called "racist" or "sexist" with no basis in fact, all to shut them.up and instill conformity in those daring to agree with their correct factual viewpoints. People are being pressured to accept this nonsense and mediocrity, because let's face it, the people employed in media today are all friends with each other or have some friends above and below them, they all want to retain their positions and they all want to set the standard that they can be as terrible and talentless and arrogant and ignorant as they can be, and yet be rewarded for.it, while attacking those who call out their BS and enciting those on the fence to take their side through fear. If they started firing anyone Immeadiately for being a talentless arrogant failure who's self deluded (like 90% of Hollywood is today at least), they'd suddenly find nearly 90%+ of positions empty, and they'd find themselves fired too.
Thanks to social media allowing everyone to make duck faces and get 1 or 2 measly likes online, everyone has become self deluded and arrogant, and this is DESTROYING the potential for intellectual, deep, creative stories like we used to get before kids deluded themselves to think they're the "deities of the peasants that follow them" ever since they got 3 followers on IG by posting their stupid face making some ugly looking face or something.

Then don't watch anything past 2005. Stay away from discussing anything beyond 2005.
There are more important things out there to rant about.
Go watch other shows, like Farscape, Lexx, Firefly, Babylon 5, Red Dwarf and The Expanse.

I get it Star Trek is different now from when we had TNG/DS9/VOY and I still miss that, but time has moved on, Star Trek has changed possibly to match the times. Will it ever be the way it was back in the days of TNG/DS9/VOY, but its Star Trek and we should be grateful that we have something still going boldly.
