Spoilers TV movies every 2 years!

I would love for some of these tv movies to be set in the Kelvinverse as well. I know I sound like a Kelvin fanboy (and well I am) but that universe is virtually unexplored (except for the three films), it's a virtual blank slate, you can even have cameos from the Core Six (Pine, Quinto, Saldana, Urban, Cho, Pegg, maybe even Bruce Greenwood as Pike if the stories take place prior to Into Darkness) pop up.
I'd welcome that.

Obviously CBS is sick of Alex Kurtzman driving the franchise even further into oblivion. Unfortunately Kurtzman owns certain IP rights towards the franchises he created. CBS has to either buy him out or disregard every single character the Kurtzmanverse actually created. What seems to be clear is that, CBS isn’t willing to invest into new long running Kurtzman IP. We had the announcement of Starfleet Academy in the 32nd century. After today’s news we know that this will never happen.

There is a decisive battle going on at CBS as we speak. Let’s just hope that quality tv can prevail and that they put the dark years of Star Trek to rest…

This is the most unhinged thing I've read today.

This is what's going to happen: The Kurtzman Era will have a beginning, middle, and end. It'll run its course just like the Rick Berman Era did. Then someone else will eventually take over. And you won't like what the next person does any more than you like what Alex Kurtzman has done.

Right now, we're entering the Middle of the Kurtzman Era. This is the Phase II. This is like when Rick Berman had DS9 and VOY going at the same time and there was a TNG Movie every two years. It's not 1:1, but that was the equivalent of where we're heading into now. So we still have a ways to go before we get to what you think you want.

Get help.

Hm... Ent-B movie, Ent-C movie, Ent-J movie, Picard taking command of the Stargazer movie, Reveal of Future Guy movie.... :D
Reveal of Future Guy should be a series by Matalas. He knows how to stretch a reveal for all it's worth.

I think Matalas could get to do his Legacy ideas in movie format. A movie with the VOY cast could work.
I am not sure why they think 2 years is the appropriate time frame. I guess they really want to make sure they have the best product. It also hints that the production values will be high.

This is great.

A chance to hire actors like Yeoh who are busy and don't want to be tied down for months, we could get an ENT movie, DS9 movie (how much would it cost to rebuild those sets now!?) tell one-off stories, MEGA 60TH ANNIVERSARY CROSSOVER!, maybe even use one as a backdoor pilot?

Finally have a jump up and down the timeline! The Lost Era has been mentioned above I see.

They could belt out 2-3 tv movies at once and release one every few months if they wanted and be content with that.

However, they probably want to sign legacy Trek actors, as well as major names (think Nicholas Cage) to these tv movies, neither of which are cheap. In addition to higher production values. So we get movies every two years instead of every year. This actually allows for a DS9 movie, a VOY movie, a ENT movie, a DIS movie, a PIC movie, and SNW movie, an LD movie. Possibly a Lost Era movie or a Kelvinverse movie.

We might even get movies that focus solely on a different species, like Klingons, Cardassians, or Ferengi.

TREKanon is alive and well! 25%!

Did JJ get busted in those secret Hollywood embezzlement trials in 2013?? We all know Into Darkness only cost £66million and he pocketed the rest!

Well moving on from all... that... look at the way this announcement was handled vs the JJ investor meeting debacle.

"Hey, we're making a movie next year!!1!"

Somebody tell the actors.

By comparison, Kurtzman is a paragon of sang froid and getting his ducks in a row, which is actually what I think his best asset has been running Trek, his unflappability and consistency.

Look, guys, friends, people,

The Star Trek franchise is on the brink of irrelevance. They can release 10 shows at the same time, yet still fail to deliver something meaningful. So many users around here live within a bubbled reality, where Kurtzman Trek is considered to be successful, innovative or even bold for that matter. These users are completely disregarding the one and only truth about the current state of the franchise: it’s inevitable, impending doom..

unflappability and consistency

The S31 show was officially announced several years ago. Almost nothing which was supposed to be brought to the table will actually get delivered. This one off tv movie is a farcry from the plans they had about Yeohs character and a concession towards artistic and monetary defeat.

All we can do is to hope that patience finally runs out with CBS execs. We will then be able to witness the beginning of something new, something beautiful, something without Kurtzman…

LOL I could say so many users are living in a bubbled reality, where successful shows and spinoffs mean the producer is going to get fired just because they don't like them. People who think since it's not like shows from 30 years ago that it's automatically bad and can't accept anything else.

Kurtzman seems like an executive that doesn't really interfere too much with his showrunner's visions. Let's say he does get fired (because Locborg doesn't like his tv shows LOL) - what makes you think the next person will be any better? It could be worse.

If you read interviews from Trek actors and Trek fans who are writers, the common thread is that they don't want to repeat what's already been done. That's boring and we have hundreds of episodes of that particular style. You may want 90s shows over and over again but this isn't the 90s anymore.

That's wonderful. As of 2024, I'll have had everything I wanted from Star Trek, possibly short of a tie-in back to "Calypso".

Star Trek to the mainstream is TOS, TNG, and the Abrams Films. It doesn't matter how many TV series they make, whether it's Berman, Kurtzman, or Someone Else. TOS and TNG will always be the main two shows. Everything else is Everything Else. The sooner you accept this, the happier you'll be.

The easiest way for them to get a big splash is to either put out Star Trek 4 or make a NuNu Star Trek 1.

Now enough of your histrionics and scare tactics.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Wait, is this another chatbot thing? Either way,

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

RMB tweeted that yesterday's announcement shows how vindictive, infantile, and ungrateful Kurtzman is since it's before the Picard finale. (HUH??)Do they just want to be angry all the time and attack Kurtzman for anything?
Yes. Yes they do.

First Contact day was just a few days ago and yet Kurtzman didn’t have the decency to announce this mini movie on this predestined date. He had to do it literally 2 days before the final episode of Picard S3, just to steal Matalas spotlight.

Wait, is this another chatbot thing? Either way,

Nope, 100% human eloquence…

No one but you and a few other bizarro Mattalas simps give an actual fuck about when the announcement was made.

Paramount decides when the those announcements are made, and whatever their decision making was, they felt now was the right time. If the final episode of a three season show can't handle a movie announcement in the same week it airs, then something must really be shitty about that show.

I do feel like they could have saved both the SFA and S31 announcements for the two-month hiatus between PIC S3 and SNW, but I have my own motivations for that...
