Galaxy Quest is going from a fictional series to an actual TV series.

Paramount+ is teaming with its studio counterpart, Paramount Television Studios, for a live-action adaptation of the 1999 cult favorite sci-fi spoof. Sources say the project is in the early development stages and a search is under way for a writer to pair with Mark Johnson, the Breaking Bad alum who exec produced the film and is returning for the scripted update. Johnson and his Gran Via Productions banner are the only execs currently attached to the project.

I don't really understand why Paramount would want something in-house that competes with Trek. Even if its meant to be comedy, Trek is venturing into comedy already with LD.

Chances of this not making it to air are high. As for the plot, I think a sequel to the movie is unlikely. Perhaps a remake of the plot of the movie? New actors in all the roles, but instead of one adventure with the Thermians it's a weekly series?

There were already rumours around the time season one of The Orville was airing that a series based on Galaxy Quest was in the works, but maybe they're further along now?

I would see that as likely, as I doubt many from the original cast would want to come back to do a series. With new actors, they have a chance to film at a convention in full attire, just like in the movie ;)

Could be good, could be a bust. Probably would've worked better before The Orville debuted but hopefully they'll come up with something that manages to differentiate the two.

That and no Alan Rickman. Might as well recast everyone. We lose out on Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, and Enrico Colantoni, but we win by getting rid of Tim Allen.

Thoughts on Tim Allen's political leanings aside, his presence in the movie made it for me. I've always been a fan of his comedy styling. Home Improvement was weekly must see TV for me.

I thought he was perfect for the role of Taggert.

Recast, call it Galaxy Quest: TNG, pilot episode appearance by Guy Fleegalman (sp?), and Bob’s your uncle. You’re welcome.

Well, on top of that, it could be an opportunity to expand the mythos. It wouldn't necessarily even have to be the same ship and crew either, but set in the same universe. That way you could potentially have cameos.

Maybe they could do with GQ what they've just done with Picard this season: pair the OG people (Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, etc.) with a cast of young newcomers for one "final adventure."

They could give Sigourney the Jeri Ryan treatment (leather jacket, boots, jeans, and a T-shirt :adore: ).

Have them mash up with their version of the Orville.

You would have a spoof spoofing a spoof.

How very Meta!

Maybe GQ's version of The Orville could have its own version of Rick Berman pawing the show's leading ladies :shifty: ("I WANT A BABE! GET ME SOMEONE HOTTER!")

Exactly. And have another alien species replicating the crew of the Defender and it almost starting a war. Then the actors have to get along and put on a joint mission show.

And they could be all meta and recruit some fans from a convention as the new crew :D
