Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

So at the end of ep9 and in the clip for ep10, Picard ordered the Enterprise to go maximum warp, but didn’t he said in ep1 that older ships required a shout out to Engineering before they can do that? Then Seven corrected him right after by saying the newer ships are fully automated and no shoutouts required? So suddenly the E-D is fully automated like the new ships?

Shhh...we fans aren't supposed to notice.

Geordi is ahead of the game ;)

Yeah, that had occurred to me too, but I decided to ignore it. Also, that was about going at 9.99. Back in the day, I think the Enterprise could only push 9.6.

No one's there :D

To be honest, it seems like they're well overdue to rejig the warp scale if they've got ships going to warp 9.99 and it doesn't seem like a big deal.
They've a very poor job with warp in these new shows. It just feels like hyperspace.

Again, "80 hours to Qo'noS" from Earth. At mid-22nd century speeds.

Speed of plot doesn't always make sense from the perspective of the rest of the franchise but it makes sense when it matters, in that one specific story or that arc.

Did they?
Indeed. They had dialog saying it would take x amount of says to get there at a certain speed. Just makes the universe feel larger. You had a better perception of time and distance. In Picard it just feels like everything is right next to each other with how quickly they go to places.
They also think going to warp means they have escaped their enemies. That was never the case before. Turning off your transponder just means they won't be able to identify what ship it is with sensors. They can still follow recent warp trials.

I do hope we'll see Geordi's Birthday Syraprise at warp with TNG streaks and Picard going Captains log, stardate bla bla...
Apparently Matalas wanted the proper warp streaks for season 3 but the producers said no; wanting that weird one Discovery has. What we have here is a compromise.
