Spoilers Continuation of 25th Century Trek?

Nostalgia bait, Member Berries, call it what you want. I call it stagnation that will do nothing to bring in new fans that are desperately needed.

You can say what you want about Discovery, but atleast they tried to bring in new fans and from what I've seen were somewhat successful.

I think it is cheap to say that we're going where we've been before and it is all nostalgia bait.
But is it accurate? The story has done OK, and by that I mean it has kept me engaged enough but it still preys on the feels. And I don't like that. If you want a natural extention of the next step in the story then do that. But don't couch it in nostalgia bait. Please don't assume that Trek is just a handful of elements, rather than a great big galaxy that could be explored well if people got past TWOK, and Klingons, and Borg and the like.

Prodigy is my best example. It has it but it moves the story forward and doesn't elbow and say "Hey, remember the past?" *wink-wink*. I hate that pandering crap.
Discovery is completely nonsensical and it genuinely doesn't seem like anyone is watching it.
Ok, well, I guess I'll be the last one to turn out the lights then...
Hyperbole. It certainly doesn't generate a lot of positive discussion on here or anywhere else I've seen.
So it must suck then?

Ridiculous. People don't talk about things they enjoy for long. They move on. I try to talk about things I love like MASH, or Golden Girls, or The Ten Commandments, or Star Wars (the original film) or whatnot, and the discussions don't go for long.

It isn't ridiculous when we have episode threads for all the shows to compare...

I look forward to the nationwide IMAX screenings of the Discovery finale.

As I said I'll watch it until the lights go out.

And that's fine.

I don't want nostalgia. I don't want rewarmed leftovers. I don't want "the feels."

I want a good story and characters I'm invested in. Discovery and Prodigy at least gave me measures of those.

Plenty of fans here and elsewhere who like it.

No, but in four decades there will IMAX screening of Star Trek: Burnham's finale. People will gush over it and call it a return to form and righting the ship from what ever the current "abomination" is.

Nostalgia is like a drug. Can be fun in small doses, but take too much and suddenly you're addicted. Season 3 is Lord Terry's "the first hit is free, but if we want more, we gotta pay for it".

Picard is now the first Trek to make the streaming top 10. So if you like lots and lots of nostalgia, you're probably good.

Everyone else... we're fucked.

I like Picard S3, but I'd trade the whole dang thing for my least favorite episode of Strange New Worlds.

It's fine for the last hurrah of the TNG era of Trek, but it's creatively bankrupt and not really tenable to base future Trek series off of nostalgia.

To make completely inappropriate and probably offensive* comparison...

This must've been what it was like as a Clinton supporter back in 2016 watching your friends and neighbour's putting "Make America Great Again" signs on their front lawns.

Only now it's Terry -Our Lord and Savior- Matalas saying "Make Trek Great Again".

*Yes, it's entirely inappropriate to compare the popularity of a television showrunner to the election of that Orangutan of a president, a man who undoubtedly had a negative effect on the entire planet, in some capacity. That said, I'm a Canadian and I can't help but compare the "MAGA movement" mentality to those who besmirch "NuTrek" at every available opportunity.

I have to wonder how well a "Legacy" show would work without the full TNG connection. Folks have bandied about Shaw , Seven and/or the Titan bridge crew as the cast. But like TNG, duplicating PIC3's success might be like catching lightning in a bottle.

Of course they could go for a DS9 reunion season, followed by ones for VOY and then ENT.

SNW has Spock, Uhura, AND the original Enterprise. That's a nostalgia show, folks. As was a large part of S2 of Disco. Prodigy has Janeway. LD is new characters, but is a MASSIVE TNG/DS9/VOY era loveletter.

The only shows/seasons that weren't nostalgic?

1) TOS (couldn't be)
2) Enterprise (also impossible)
3) DISCO S3 & S4

TNG did a little, but they really had no choice given the time elapsed. A McCoy cameo in the debut. Scotty & Spock eventually. Kirk in Generations.
