Spoilers The Mandalorian Season 3

Wait, they got Todd to play Pellaeon? Talk about range!
You beat me to it. :p

"She's not my mother, TODD."

Todd actually survived the events of T2 and somehow ended up as Admiral Pellaeon in the Star Wars universe. Good job, John Connor. Save one world for a few extra years but help condemn another galaxy. Maybe you should have appreciated ol' TODD more.

Project Necromancer must relate to the rebirth of Palpatine.
Except.. that should have already happened by this point in the timeline.
Reverend said:
The First Order was "born" at the Battle of Jakku, which is already 4 or 5 years back at this point.
I think it's supposed to be at least 6, if season 3 is in 11 ABY.

It’s actually the project to clone a new force abled body for Palpatine. It’s what leads to Rey’s father

That was exciting! The tribes being their own worst enemies was great, as was Grogu stopping the knife fight.

The survivors' boat was gloriously ridiculous, but worked on a planet whose surface has been turned to glass.

Bo-Katan's admission that she had surrendered felt like a very important moment in her story. I love the growth her character has shown. (Aside: Katee is coming to our Phoenix con in June.)

Din's speech to Bo-Katan was lovely.

The IG-12 mech suit could have been the most idiotic idea possible and yet somehow ended up working or at least not being a story detriment.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
My hubby said, "Grogu gets a battlemech!"

Legion of Zoom Call.
:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

I haven't seen the animated shows so, is Moff Gideon just nuts or what? Man has issues...

How do that many mercenaries not realize it was a trap? We were Akbaring at the tv!

Ave Paz Vizla! He went out A Big Damn Hero!

Ruminating on the episode... It is titled "The Spies." But the only explicit spy depicted is Elia Kane, Gideon's mole in the NR. Now, we could stretch that to include Gideon himself, as he is ISB and, as he himself puts it this week, secrets are his stock in trade. So, spy-master. But the more obvious explanation for the title is that there is a spy in the Mando camp.

Am I saying there absolutely is one? No, of course not. Just thinking about loud. But Bo did just riff on how Mandalore has a habit of defeating itself through fractiousness and factionalism. Themes!

So, given television it will be a face character and not just some random schlub from the background. I think we can safely rule out Din (our POV character), Paz (for obvious reasons given the episode) and Bo (her disdain for Gideon is an established character trait and their encounter rings true to me).

So there are three prime suspects.

1) One of the survivalist Mandos, probably their leader. He didn't get a name, but he got enough lines to be recognizable. The least likely because it's so obvious and has the least dramatic impact.
2) The Armorer. Who conveniently left Mandalore before the battle. And the episode DID linger on her passage back to orbit in kind of an odd way. Though it wouldn't be the first time SW has done something like that just for the sake of doing it. She was also the only person present after the Nevarro covert was decimated by the Empire, though she had a decent cover story and we now know she was not the only survivor (Paz again). She also has a helmet indicative of being a Maul loyalist, something unique to her in this series. Or at least it was, Gideon's helmet has horned protrusions as well, which may not be a coincidence. And her explanation of how the CoW survived the Purge is plausible, but also kind of weak sauce. Maybe she did a deal to ensure their survival, and is perhaps doing it again? Sacrificing many so that a few may live?
3) Axe Woves. Who also conveniently fled the battle before the true trap was sprung. We know he has grown disillusioned with Bo's leadership at least once already. And she did just kind of beat his backside in ritual combat last week. Perhaps he didn't take kindly to the humiliation?

I'm curious if we'll follow up next week, or if this will all be wasted, idle musing in the end.

Battle of Mandalore
Correction: The Seven Thousand, Eight Hundred And Ninety First Battle of Mandalore.
There's a reason the place was a flattened wasteland with hermetically sealed domed cities even before the Empire carpet nuked it.
This episode has made Mandalorian culture more and more palatable.
I'm on record as having never been the fan of the the EUs "they're all space vikings and can totally beat up the Jedi's dad!" version of Mando culture, so I've also always liked how the various shows (animated and otherwise) have managed to incorporate that into a society that make sense and has an interesting narrative through line. Making the "never remove the helmet!" crowd a cult of extremist nutters, and most everyone else in the culture pretty much sick of that BS was a stroke of genius.
But yeah, it's nice to see Bo Katan finally see Mandalore's struggle for what it is.
That poor Hux. Knowing he has a traitorous son later on. :)
Well if it makes you feel any better, he was supposedly an abusive father. Also I think the kid had Phasma off him if memory serves.
Fang fighters! First live action appearance.
Guess again!

He's not an animated character but original to this show. But most Imperial Moffs do tend to go a little bit squiffy in the noodle. Something something something, unlimited power, something something, unlimited corruption.

Incidentally, in the books Pellaeon may be the closest thing to a nice (or at least mentally stable) person the Imperial Navy ever produced. He's basically the Dr. Watson to Thrawn's Sherlock Holmes.
Which just now make me realise that the books never did give him a proper Moriarty, but the shows seem to have already done that with Ahsoka. They haven't touched on it yet, but one doesn't spend almost 20 years operating as a spymaster right under the noses of the ISB and Inquisitorious without being very very . . . sneaky.

Next week looks to the Battle of Mandalore. Things not looking good for Din. Grogu to the rescue? Will the Republic arrive to help? Teva and Zeb ftw!
.
Don’t forget the Mythosaur. If you thought Boba Fett riding a Rancor in the BOBF finale was cool, we possibly haven’t seen nothing yet!

Speaking of said character, remember that teaser poster for this season that just featured a load of different Mandalorian helmets, two of which of were Boba’s and Sabine’s. Seemed at the time like a hint they could appear at sone point this season among all the Mandalorian shenanigans. But with only one episode left and a lot going on I can’t see now them having room for that. Ah well.

Well someone's going to have to ride to the rescue, may as well be Sabine, Boba, the Adelphi Rangers (and maybe Ahsoka?) Last minute rescues and allies showing up in the nick of time is something of a Star Wars tradition.
And yeah, someone (maybe everyone, Freman style!) is almost certainly going to be riding a Mythosaur before the end of next episode.

As someone who's been a little cool on much of this season I have to say. That. Was. Fantastic!

The various Mandalorian clans coming together and scooting off to Mandalore did seem a little rushed, and handy they found yet another tribe on the planet, but still this was very, very good.

Grogu/IG-12 was hilarious, but also Grogu shows wisdom even as a child in breaking up the fight. Some great action, though I was screaming "It's a trap!" as they ran after the stormtroopers. Gideon makes for a great villain, this was a good episode for Mando but especially for Katee Sackhoff. Paz Vizsla's last stand was amazing. What a way to go.

I'm still debating whether the Armorer is sus, but if Gideon's forces are clothed in Beskar then that implies him using someone who knows how to craft armour out of Beskar? If she is a wrong'un I wonder if Emily Swallow will finally lose the helmet?

I also suspect Mando will lose his helmet next week, as someone else said it's the kinda dick move you'd expect from Gideon. That said when Mando was on his knees in front of Gideon I was genuinely concerned that he was going to die.

I'm definitely expecting Captain Teva to show up next week, if Gideon was sprung by people wearing Beskar where would you start? I also wonder if maybe the New Republic are quite as dumb as they've been made out to be, and given how obvious Elia Kane is it'd be kinda cool if they figured out she was still loyal to the Empire.

All this and Xander Berkley? I was watching the meeting and going. Is that...no...yes...I'm not sure!

I also wondered if the people of Nevarro were a bit sad to see all their newfound protectors sod off three days after arriving

If the Armorer is sus, would she have installed some sort of kill switch into the armor she's made? They all have electronics in them...even Grogu's new roundel. That works if she was a follower of Clan Saxon/Maul's part of Deathwatch following the death of Pre Vizsla. But if she's not sus, will she be able to keep the fleet safe against TIE Fighters?

With the mix of information Captain Teva gathered mixed with Plazir-15's recognizing Mandalore under Bo-Katan (with a note that she's got a small fleet of ships with her now) might invite a recon in force by the New Republic, or at least its Rangers to see what's up. Even if its a small number of X-wings and Y-wings, that should be enough with the Fang Fighters and Gauntlets to handle TIE Interceptors and Bombers. As long as a Star Destroyer doesn't now up.

All this talk of TODD, when he was also RALPH!

Perhaps the titular spies are the survivors whom the scouting team encountered on the surface, sent by Gideon to a) steer the scouting team into the trap near the Great Forge and b) infiltrate the the Stolen Fleet as saboteurs by creating the need for the weaker survivors to be flown back up to it, as they were by the Armorer.
