The Terry Matalas as Star Trek Showrunner Petition

They tried the same thing for Manny Coto for Enterprise season 5, we all know how that turned out.
People quickly forgot Coto wrote Similitude, one of the most morally hideous and badly written episodes in the history of Trek, salamanders and ways of the warrior excepted. People put show runners and writers up on pedestals, but it is almost never that clear cut.

we have no king but Ronald D Moore.. but ah, he's running a much better show on another streaming service

That's an interesting take, I remember Similitude being considered one of the better Enterprise episodes.

opinions will vary. the idea of raising a sentient being just to harvest a few parts and murder it, is about as dark as Trek got (apart from Archer's genocide) , seemed like a bad variation on a theme of an equally morally bankrupt-posing-as-a-delimma-episode Tuvix , and made zero sense. The book and movie Never Let Me Go did a much better job of the idea.

but off-topic, here.

This thread seems to unite fans who find most of Kurtztrek to be unoriginal, uninspired and underwhelming with fans who love it against the Matacolytes. ;)

That's according to your own limited perspective. RMB, Popcast, Cullen, Critical Drinker and the others were given the episodes way in advance and were actually informed about all of this.

Access. It all comes down to access.

At the end of the day, some of us trust our own eyes and own opinions as opposed to the hyperbole sent from YouTubers who are enjoying their moment in the sun because of some access.

I think Terry Matalas will have another shot at doing something else in Trek, petition or not.

I think this will be true. What that is? Who knows?

Agreed. I think the best argument for Terry having more access to Trek is is this season successful? If it is, great and more power to him and I mean that sincerely. If he demonstrates viable interest from this product that supports Paramount's goals then I'm all for it. I'm not going to put a petition out there for that to change just because I think he did a good job, though. Especially not at the expense of tearing other people down.

Let's not forget what Gene really wanted

Oh look a Disco Klingon! Um...

Well, you have:
  1. The NeverTrekkers, the people like Doomcock that oppose any new Star Trek that has Kurtzman involved, no matter the extent;
  2. The anti-NuTrek people, that almost always oppose DISCOVERY and PICARD season 1 (but sometimes make various accomodations for SNW, STLD, or PRODIGY) but do like TerryTrek;
  3. The pro-Kurtzman people that like at least two of DISCOVERY, PICARD season 1, or SNW, and like PICARD season 3 to varying levels;
  4. The anti-anti-NuTrek people that oppose PICARD season 3, because the anti-NuTrek people like it or because it is too close to Berman-era

That's where I am as well. I have, generally, enjoyed this season. It has had some good moments for sure and I credit those to Terry Matalas. I think there's some sincere flaws too. I also credit those to Terry Matalas. Terry can do wrong and that’s okay. But let’s not claim him to be the savior of Star Trek. He’s done good for Trek but the idea it’s perfect for all is not a truism. Also, there is too much "This is amazing and more should happen because X sucks." I just can’t with that.

And then the Star Trek people who like some aspects of Trek, don't like other aspects of Trek, and stick it all in the same filing cabinet.

Indeed. I cannot get behind the beating down of past seasons because of the love fest with this season. Is life so short that we need that instant gratification of Trek in our lives that we must decry all instead of finding something to like?

I make no secret of my personal disinterest in Berman era, but that does not mean I don't like aspects of it. I have written enough RPGs and fan fictions and read enough books to find things I like.

If you like Season 3 then more power to you! Just say that. Let your yes be yes instead of saying "I like Season 3 way better than the :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:."

It's ok to just like something, with no qualifiers.

Why do we even need to categorize them? Can’t we all be Star Trek fans who like their particular Trek? This is how we get to an us vs. them mentality.

isn’t that pretty anti-Trek?

5. Fans that don't really give a shit whose in charge and generally just watch the shows because they're Star Trek fans and can accept that they'll like some shows more then others.

Can't we all just get along?

*Kicks a can. Ok, ok just asking*

Meanwhile this thread is becoming a microcosm of the general division in genre fandom that's existed since 2017

2017?!? Hahaha. Isn’t that precious? 1987 at least. Probably earlier. When TNG was announced you had those who were so against the idea of doing anything without Kirk, Spock and McCoy, there was all kinds of hate against it.
