The Terry Matalas as Star Trek Showrunner Petition

I tried 2 big ones…….felt like cattle……maybe I’ll try a cruise one day, but no desire to do another con. Very cliquish too.
I've done one big one, and three littles. At each point it feels very cliquish, not very accepting, and not enjoyable. And way to much emphasis on alcohol.

Only one I've been to is Vegas for the 50th Anniversary, it was fun. I'll never do it again though. Not worth the cost.

I did FanExpo in Toronto and the London Comic Con a few times. That was plenty. I met Nimoy. Got my picture with him. Shook his hand. I'm good.

I did Comic Con in London twice and a Star Wars Celebration…….then a small one in Peterborough. The small one was the best. Jeremy Bulloch was there and just a really cool guy.

It's documented that the Discovery Kilngons were greatly hampered in their acting ability due to their overthought canon destroying look.

No. It did not. Canon cannot, by definition, be “destroyed”. EVERYTHING in an official onscreen release is canon. How anyone feels about it is irrelevant.

I don't count 09' ST movies as canon at all, no worries.
That’s nice. Not up to you, though.

Yes some like it and some hate it, but more dislike it than like it.
There is no way for you to make that determination based on your purely anecdotal, non-documented assertions about a very, very small subset of fans.

I am a convention junkie and have attended dozens of Star Trek conventions in 3 countries. I am going by word of mouth talking real heart to heart with hardcore fans, the type that dress up like I do at conventions.
Ah. Excellent. More gatekeeping. Must be in season as there’s been quite a bit of it these past few weeks.

This statement
A fan is a fan, be it hardcore or causal.
and this one
It's unfair to compare the drawing power of a decades long fan to that of a new fan who just came into the franchise with say Discovery.
cannot both be true. Moreover, in terms of audience, there’s no distinction if each one is regularly watching. Paramount will gladly take each one’s money.

I've done conventions since the late 70s, as a fan and, for a few users, as a guest.

They're fun. As in, swap meets and car shows are fun if you like swap meets and car shows.

And that's all they are.

Yess incredibly cliquey although there were some genuinely nice people out there too. I think these conventions are generally some people's only opportunity to lord it over someone else lol

I went to a few little Trek conventions in the early 90s. Met Robin Curtis and Jonathan Del Arco. I could have met Majel but for some odd reason my dad and I couldn’t make it that day. Those were fun, but I grew out of them when I discovered girls.

I tried again not too long ago. There was a big Comic-Con like thing where we live a little bit before COVID. My buddy and I didn’t even go into any panels just choosing to stay on the floor. It was crowded and uncomfortable before I lived through a pandemic. I think something like that now might give me a serious panic attack.

We overheard Shatner’s panel. Had I not just seen him talk after a Star Trek II screening a few months earlier, I might have suggested we go in.

Speaking of sampling.. this is from a pretty wide group. RedLetterMedia has quite the following.

And they discussed the push for a Star Trek Legacy spinoff;
