The Terry Matalas as Star Trek Showrunner Petition

The TMP Klingons could act with that makeup, the STD ones were greatly hindered by that horrible choice to use.
TMP is one of the ugliest make up choices for the Klingons. Discovery feels natural by comparison. And we get all of what, one scene of them acting. Not worth it.

It's documented that the Discovery Kilngons were greatly hampered in their acting ability due to their overthought canon destroying look.

Yes. The STD Klingon makeup was simply - and inexplicably - terribly designed.

Not "in my opinion," just as an observable fact.
I agree. Discovery was a total disaster of show - season 1 felt like a manic mix of showrunner ideas. I remember the disappointment of the fanbase when the very first sneak peek ship trailer came out and it was downhill from there, disappointment after disappointment, until Discovery latched onto the current diversity push in society and found it's voice with a lot of people.

Let's not forget what Gene really wanted

This is Fletcher's costume design, and aside from the hands the make-up, by Fred Phillips, is very close to what they did. Every Klingon design since is based upon it.

For that matter, the costume design is conceptually in the ballpark with what they used.

Yeah, no.

"The fanbase," to the extent that such a critter exists, was and is divided on the show - probably because "the fanbase" doesn't exist, and the truth is that some people like the show and some people hate it.

Yes some like it and some hate it, but more dislike it than like it.

When was the last time there was a unified "fan base"? The mid-70s?

Watch what you like, don't watch what you don't like. TPTB don't owe me Trek that I like, and I don't owe them my viewership. When they make a product I like, I support it but that by no means entitles me to anything. YMMV.

I am a convention junkie and have attended dozens of Star Trek conventions in 3 countries. I am going by word of mouth talking real heart to heart with hardcore fans, the type that dress up like I do at conventions.
I see. So what do we count as?

Bearing in my convention days are long over. But, of course, we should only write a show that appeals to the 1% of fans that attend conventions and dress up in costumes, right? There is no room for any other type of fan, correct?

Why are you being defensive? Nothing I said is a personal attack on anyone. A fan is a fan, be it hardcore or causal. But I doubt many casual fans have access to the actors and various staff that the people at conventions do. It's unfair to compare the drawing power of a decades long fan to that of a new fan who just came into the franchise with say Discovery. It takes time to build communites and groups, and trust. Come on a Star Trek cruise to better understand where I am coming from.

Then why the distinction? It makes it sound like only one opinion has value.

Casual fans have access too. It's called social media.

And I've been to conventions. I don't see the value in attending them now.
Lol. I’ve been in many echo chambers and EVERYONE agreed with me in there!
They are my favorite places to attend. Everyone's so nice too!

If the Star Trek fanbase relied only on those who attended conventions, the franchise would have died 50 years ago. Those fans are a fraction of a percentage point in regards to the fandom at large. Not every fan is a Vulcan ear wearing, model building, encyclopedia quoting nerd like so many of us, myself included.
