Well, some see his answers in this session as occasionally vague regarding his involvement with WB or DC. I call it fans' bout of wishful thinking, but the interview is interesting.

"Blue Beetle" trailer coming tomorrow. Can't wait to see what makes this worthy of being bumped up to a theatrical release while "Batgirl" just gets scrapped.

yes! # Hashbrown Team Blue Beetle.

    (Cobra Kai reference)

⁰I am disappointed in the Batgirl tax fiasco.. I am guessing there is little tie in to the Snyderverse, so Zaslav might want to keep it if it does well

Is that the pilot for a CW show? I though the Arrowverse was done?

The Scarab seems less menacing than in the animated versions I've seen. I haven't heard it with a female voice before. It's Siri Scarab!

Also, while I've certainly seen it shapeshift, it's generally been shown producing its own inbuilt weapon and tech designs. "Anything you can imagine, I can create" seems more like Green Lantern than Blue Beetle.

Interesting that they're avoiding the secret-identity angle, at least among Jaime's family. That's a nice departure from the usual superhero-movie cliches.

Interesting, but I will need to see more clips to get a feel of what direction Blue Beetle is taking.

Okay, I had no interest in this before the trailer, and now I have ... some.

    "Batman's a fascist!"

As someone only familiar with the Ted Kord version (and the fantastic friendship with Booster), this just feels like Spider-Man 2.0, complete with Iron Suit's computer voice and tentacles.

Though as a fan of Xolo Maridueña because of Cobra Kai, I want this to succeed.

Well, yeah, if Spider-Man had remained permanently linked to the Venom symbiote, so that he had to learn to live with it and restrain its killer urges.

I didn't get any "permanently linked" or "killer urges" from the trailer.

James Gunn tweeted out the trailer along with a message to "Come see this warm, funny, wonderful film only in theaters August 18!"

For me, that's a big red flag and signals that the 'chickens may be coming home to roost' with regards to prematurely announcing to the world that the upcoming DC movie slate means absolutely nothing.

The trailer also makes it seem like the movie is trying too hard to be a copy of the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, which is also a red flag because the first of said movies was a narrative trainwreck.

My position on Spider-Man Homecoming is not news. It's by far the worst Spider-Man movie I've seen to date, primarily because it was, as mentioned, a narrative trainwreck that relegated the supposed titular character to being a guest star who was forced to play second fiddle to Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau.

Well, yes, which is why I tried to clarify how the character is portrayed in comics and animation. He's not Spider-Man crossed with Iron Man, but more like Spider-Man crossed with Venom if the Venom symbiote were Iron Man armor. The fact that Jaime has an intelligent alien superweapon fused to his spine and has to struggle to keep it in check is pretty much the defining aspect of his character. Maybe the second trailer will establish that; it's normal for each of a film's trailers to focus on different aspects of the story.

For the most part that looked like a lot of fun. Jaime's Blue Beetle is great in my opinion, and looking forward to it. Xolo looks like he'll be great, if older than I usually picture Jaime.

I'm... a little less sure I like the idea of "Scarab Siri." I loved the Jaime/Scarab interactions in Young Justice (the place I've seen BB most), a lot of humor came from Jaime having to reign the Scarab in... and even it growing a little bit. Taking that away seems like a real shame; but of course just because it sounds like Siri in the first trailer doesn't mean it'll stay that way.

It's interesting how in Young Justice, the Scarab speaks to Jaime in his own voice (albeit harsher), since the voice is in his head, communicating with him mentally. Then there's the way it's done in Batman: The Brave and the Bold and the Animated Movie Universe, where we only hear Jaime's side of the conversation. Here, it's unclear whether the voice is in his head or actually audible.

Anyone remember whether we heard the Scarab voice when Blue Beetle appeared in Smallville? Or in Justice League Action?

Neither Gunn nor anyone else announced anything remotely resembling this.

A film means whatever that film means, full stop.

A film does not have meaning or value only if it is part of a narrative continuum that never ends.

It is so deeply weird that anyone would think otherwise.

I couldn’t even watch that trailer without double clicking the screen for the +10 seconds thing a few times. So yeah, don’t think I wanna sit through a movie length version of it. Looks like the most unoriginal thing I’ve ever seen. If it’s for kids fair enough, but won’t be for me
