Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

That's Eaglemoss...

It's what has always put me off buying any ships... they all used to look nice on the website but seeing ones reviewed with the 'windows' all painted out of their little grooves always put me off.
IIRC there were a small handful of ships, later in the production run, that simply had the paint/decals without window divots. Can't remember which ones, but they looked quite good. Someone figured it out. Sadly, too little, too late.

Could have been worse. Some of their Doctor Who models looked like they'd been fingerpainted.

:wtf: Damn, that sucks. Never got any of the Whovian stuff. I wonder how the Space: 1999 and Orville ships looked.

I gotta say, though, the BTTF DeLorean kit was a lesson in engineering near-perfection. If the wires had been better laid out (got crimped & jostled when the upper & lower halves were married together) and the screw holes been pre-tapped, it would have been a perfect build. Maybe it was a different team.

I'd bet the building kits were engineered and manufactured by completely seperate groups, other than Robinson doing the Trekfiles-esque stuff that came in the instruction booklets.

How was the Galactica stuff quality wise? I never got around to that (oops).

Got them all. Like the Trek models, it’s a mixed bag. The NuBSG stuff was better made, as they probably had access to all the original CG assets from the show. The TOS stuff was not quite as accurate, particularly the Galactica herself. I would have hoped that they did a 3D scan of the original (whoever has it) but it was sadly definitely not to be.

Just bought the Jupiter Station off of Real Merch. Of the space stations I don't have, this one was pretty low on my list, but it was the only one available, so there you go. I bought it early enough that I got a shipping number. Hopefully this comes a bit quicker that the coaxial ship that's taking its sweet time from Master Replica.

Imho, Eaglemoss turned Jupiter Station into a great model.

Personally, I loved that the model was delivered when Jupiter Station - and its mirror universe counterpart - played roles in a STO storyline. So I had Jupiter Station on my desk while seeing it in action on my screen.

And now the station's CGI forms the core of another, expanded station in a current show! (PIC spoiler).

Ben tweeted out a picture of the Gold XL 1701-E. Looks like that one is coming either 2nd or 3rd wave. He says it was one of the ones stuck in China.

Wow. Didn’t think I’d ever see any of those. I preordered mine back when Eaglemoss was still functioning but I guess all those original transactions are gone with it.

My bank refused to refund my undelivered preorders from Eaglemoss because of some sort of lapsed window in which a missing purchase can be reimbursed. I could fight them on it but I'm honestly not sure it's worth the hassle.

Interesting! Sorry to hear that… When I did pre-orders with them, they didn’t ever charge me until the model was shipped, which is as it should be. I never lost any money like that.

Yes, they definitely took money ahead of preshipping for my last two orders (the ones I never received) – I'm not sure about other orders because I didn't have to check those of course. This could be one of those things where it worked differently depending in which regional store you were shopping.

I have a Twitter conversation with Eaglemoss's customer support team from 5 July 2022 asking if there was any information on these orders I'd paid for in January, because any requests I'd emailed to them for updates had gone unanswered (and I have to say Eaglemoss were always rubbish at responding to customer service emails, that wasn't just a "dying days" thing). They assured me that they'd look into it and get back to me. Literally less than two weeks later the company folded

Oh well. These things happen. And it wasn't a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things.

I was never charged until it shipped either, so didn’t lose any money. Difference between the US and other countries maybe ?
I believe so, I don't think Eaglemoss ever took payments upfront in the US.

I believe there may be federal credit card fraud laws in place, making it illegal to charge a card in advance until goods and services are rendered.
