I think @Spider gave a good rationale. Good enough for me anyway. Of course, it is always a matter of personal preference, but to wholesale condemn all those who subjectively dislike the name as “racist idiots” is a ridiculously hateful generalization (sadly not at all surprising, considering the source), and a complete bullshit and inexcusable statement.
I said "racist idiots in the DC metro area want the Redskins name back."
I didn't say all fans of the team wanted the name back, nor did I generalize.
Edit: It's similar to the outrage over certain Cleveland Indians fans throwing a fit over the team being renamed the Guardians.

"Secure" people don't make consistent loud and proud pejorative pronouncements against mass quantities of others with whom they disagree philosophically. Whether it's hiding bravely behind a keyboard or beating the shit out of someone in an alley, it's still forcing one's will on others - the very textbook definition of a bully.
