In my days we didn't have fancy dedication plaques. We had to the one ship and were glad to have the one!

It was up on the bridge head wall and it said "This is a spaceship"

Ya because Kirk flew a United Earth starship. Or was it an Earth Federation starship ?

I think in one episode, he just says "United Star Ship". I suspect it meant he had a ship that had no active mutiny ongoing.

I find the new ships don't look 'fat' or chunky enough....seems curvy is out of fashion and size zero is in.

United Star Ship is the only term we ever heard in all of Star Trek for what "USS" means. Maybe someday we'll get an in-universe explanation as to what NCC means.

The Yorktown was there, as the Enterprise-A.

    Nope. That's an urban myth.

No one from production, not even Gene said the Enterprise-A was a renamed Yorktown.

I thought it was the other way around - once the Yorktown made it back to spacedock (via the "makeshift solar sail"), it was quickly renamed and repainted to the E-A following the Kirk/council room scene. IIRC, another name that was bounced about was Atlantis. My memory is really foggy about those details that far back...

The Ti-Ho is another name referenced as the source for the Enterprise-A. That one comes from the reference book Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise.

LOL. “Kirk, we’re giving you command of the Enterprise-A. But you’ll have to wait a bit so we can remove all the dead bodies of the Yorktown crew first.”

I rather liked the idea that the E-A was Yorktown and the massive problems we see in Final Frontier is because of the lingering systems problems that the Whale Probe inflicted on it.
