Gamerant article: Star Trek:" What Made Kes and Neelix’s Relationship So Inappropriate"?

I don't see anything wrong with their relationship. No need to apply human standards and modern day humans standards to boot to alien cultures. I assume if your in Starfleet you see all sorts of things that go against human norms. One of the points of Starfeet is to learn and even come to accept these differences. Kes might be 2 by human standards but the Ocampa clearly have a whole different view on age which is to be expected when i you are lucky you might live to be 12 years.
 
That Klingon lady.

I gotta assume that the disease to which they were all afflicted, killed them young, so it's possible that few crewmen on that ship were over 20....

They seem fully matured at 7 years of age.

Neelix banged a nine year old?

Deltans have to take an Oath of Celibacy, because humans can't handle what they're cooking.

So there's at least one species where intercourse is categorically denied to mankind because humans are weak and immature.

Since the human age of consent is 18 (16 in some places), and Ocampa only last 9, certainly that law doesn't make sense where they're concerned.

I agree. Chances are Kes was already at the age of consent when she and Neelix had joined the Voyager crew.
 
Maybe that was the writers way of taking a chance by testing the tolerance of the viewers. The humor of Neelix was layed on too thick in the early seasons. Didn't work for me. The chemistry with Kes seemed nonexistent. Were the writers trying to challenge the closed-minded viewers like with Rom and Leeta? Who knows? Rom, at least, had his own charm.

I think they just felt the idea of a alien species with a short lifespan was a neat idea and assumed that most people would consider the characters maturity age that to be that of the actors real life age. So if it was okay for Jennifer LIen to date a adult then it would be okay for Kes to as well.

Moses died inches before they found the promised land.
 
It was a bad relationship because they had no chemistry. I just finished a rewatch of VOY and found myself liking Neelix for the first time. He was a sweet guy and I think he really loved Kes and she seemed like an adult to me, I would put her maturity at like 25. Her demeanour was very affected and overly 'pure' though and I regard her as one of the most annoying characters in television.
 
How do you feel about the Doctor and the Vidian scientist? The Doctor is 2 years old or less at that point in time.

I think he should have kept the name she gave him. What better way for him to honor the person who did so much for him?

And if he is non-sentient, consent is irrelevant. You might as well punish Worf for killing Skeletor in his battle training.

Slaves are property.

If my kitchen table tried to have a Chicago sunroof with you, I'd sic the police on you for defiling my kitchen and sullying my table.

Even if he is sentient, the Doctor is still a slave, so Janeway has the first and last say on his sex life.

A further concern is the ships protein reserve. If an alien has sex with the Doctor on the holodeck, what ever alien fluid or solid is released sexually, that reproductive waste is going to be collected, and added to the ships food supply.

If you "change your own oil" anywhere on the ship, probably the same thing in the end. So enjoy that sausage pizza you just replicated.
 
I thought Kes/Neelix was off-putting from the moment I heard about it, well before the series premiered.
 
A quote from Stargate SG-1 comes to mind.

"Oh you Earthlings and your morality. Does it ever occur to you that someone outside your solar system might not see things the way you do?"
