Certainly ignores all the factors of transmission, and also exaggerates both the risk I am double boosted and and definitely have had our whole family get the vaccine. But the reality is that you can still both get Covid AND spread it, even if you do "everything right", like my daughter and Dr. Fauci. And while they immediately isolated themselves when they got the results, the truth is that they could have spread it to several others before they found out. It confirms what many would come to see as the ocean-wide difference between the direction of the theatrical version and ZSJL. Interesting detail is that ZSJL is Affleck's highest-rated film. It appears he's proud of the ZS cut, and should be, but its just more evidence how Whedon had no business being brought on to the film--for a large number of reasons.
It seems that he sniffs a Marvel-ization of the 'new' Gunn DC Universe. If not lack of directorial control, more of the 'candy' content. Zach Levy has to say what he's been saying if he wants to be Shazaam going forward and he probably does. Shazaam was the most 'candy' of them all anyway. Ben Affleck no longer cares about being Batman.
I wonder how Shazam will do this weekend. Unfortunately, my daughter who wants to see it will be on a school college tour this weekend, so we won't be able to see it next week. Not sure if other people will have similar event going on, so i will wait until the 2nd week before declaring disaster. I also recently finished Cobra Kai, so i am now excited to see Blue Beetle. They need to have a viral ad with William Zabka telling people to see it, and end with "Hashbrown Blue Beetle" And even funnier if they do a end credit scene in the movie where Xolo enters a dark room and a voice says "Wow,I am impressed". Then Xolo says "Uh hi sensei?" and we see William Zabka.
I don't think anyone should be surprised. The type of work Ben Affleck has always done was hands-off. Comic book movies especially today have too many cooks in the kitchen for a director's vision to truly be their own. And with every passing hour, Ben Affleck grows more tired of everyone else's shit. LOL
I can understand where directors who are used to more or less having free rein to do whatever they want might have a problem with the MCU approach, but I think a more hands on approach by the people in charge of the universe makes sense when you're movies are as connected as these cinematic universes are. It really is a more TV like approach, which is probably why the directors who seem to be coming back for multiple movies the most are ones who have worked in TV. It is free rein right, as in letting up on the reins so the horse has more freedom to movie? Or is it free reign, as in a ruler having the freedom to rule how they want?
The MCU has provided its movie makers some latitude in establishing their own vision of the characters so far. The Eternals, Thor (the first movie), the Captain America movies, the first two Ant-Man movies, and the Guardians are all examples of that. Of course, this being an interconnected universe there needs to be somebody watching over all the pieces. In fact, it has been lack of editorial oversight in the comics that has led to a lot of problems, especially at DC. The was the biggest issue with the New 52 and why it fell apart. My biggest complaint with the MCU is how certain characters and subplots have been forced into recent films for the purpose of building a larger narrative, but ultimately detracting from the focus and quality of the individual movie.
That Affleck interview is interesting. He is obviously very much behind Zack's vision. How he discusses turning down the chance to direct a future Batman movie under Gunn is a bit sharp. But I can understand and respect his opinion.
