Michelle Yeoh, Oscar Winner

Congratulations to Michelle Yeoh! One of my all time favorites.

"Star Trek: Discovery featuring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh"

At least we've got some good ad copy for the next year.

And I'm still holding out hope for some kind of S31 miniseries. Now would be an, ahem, great time to announce it, secret hideout/paramount

Congratulations to Michelle!

The chances of a Section 31 spinoff are now 0.0001%.

It could still happen.....just not with her.

At best she's a "special guest star" to kick off the series and maybe make guest appearances. But as a regular? I don't see it.

As if Paramount wouldn't want to capitalise on Michelle Yeoh being a drawcard to bring in a new audience who may not have considered Star Trek previously or headlining a series that will appeal to the asian streaming market.

Of course they would....but would they pay? That's the question. Plus, would it interrupt her from working on more prestigious material?

I hope they can make it work. Her presence on such a show, regardless of her Oscar win, feels essential. She's an incredibly charismatic actress and her character is magnetic. Starting a show like S31 without her feels somewhat useless to me.

Given that Paramount+ is under pressure to cut costs and that Michelle Yeoh's fee almost certainly just went up tonight, I would be really surprised if Star Trek: Georgiou happens now.

But! As near as I can tell, Yeoh is only the third major Star Trek actor to go on to win an Oscar (after Whoopi Goldberg for Ghost in 1990 and Christopher Plummer for Beginners in 2012), and she's the first to win for lead actor/actress rather than supporting.

I was delighted to meet Oscar winner Louise Fletcher and get her to sign Cuckoos Nest as a Trek convention a few years back.
The chances of Michelle getting back to Trek are zero! I’m delighted for her win and will watch the movie.

First, congrats!
2nd, yeah, not much of a chance, its been what, 5 years since S31 was "announced" as a possibility.. Yeah, I doubt it will be happening.

Well deserved on her part. She's amazing in anything she does!
I agree though that ST:S31 with her is completely unlikely now - so....how about that backdoor pilot with Raffi, Worf and...HIS handler? :)

Yeah, I think the only way Section 31 is going to happen now is if it's something that Michelle Yeoh just really wants to do. On the hopeful side, she was a Star Trek fan before being cast in it and really seems enthusiastic about the project when it's brought up to her.

ETA: I almost forgot the most important thing-- Congratulations Michelle! Truly well deserved.

Tomorrow Never Dies is my favorite Bond film, and Yeoh is part of the reason why.

(fun fact: In that film, during the fight scene in the bicycle shop, none of the film's regular stuntmen had the guts to do the scene because of Yeoh's fighting style. So they had to call in Jackie Chan's stunt team!)

I've been a Michelle Yeoh fan since I watched my grandparents' VHS of Tomorrow Never Dies as a teenager circa 2000 or 2001. :)

Only other thing I would say is that if Star Trek: Georgiou does happen, I hope Phillipa is working for Starfleet Intelligence to bring down Section 31 instead of working for them.

ETA:

Also, with Star Trek: Discovery ending, I really hope Yeoh comes back for the series finale. Even if it's just like a dream sequence or something. I can picture a scene with Michael saying goodbye to all the various parents in her life -- her father, her mother, Sarek, Amanda, Phillipa and Mirror Phillipa...
