I did think when they did the long close-up of his face that they need to avoid doing that if they want to sell that he is 24!
Still waiting for someone to deepfake this guy into all of James McAvoy's X-Men movies and Star Trek Nemesis. (there's a youtube of deepfaking Patrick onto Shinzon online but it wasn't that good as they used footage of much older Patrick instead of one age appropriate for Shinzon)
Where is the disconnect? A nineteen year old cadet or crewman isn't out of the ordinary, How much older than Stashwick does Shaw have to be? Most ensigns would be what 21 or 22 upon getting their commission, so not much older.
Somewhere out there a Wesley Crusher getting ready to ram a borg ship is laughing about being too young to be on a starship.
Speaking of Wesley, if we need an explanation why Jack's age doesn't add up, maybe he spent some spacetime hanging out with his big brother.
I don't see any issue with this. He's 23/24. So they soap opera aged him a couple years. Big freaking deal. People complained less about the golden four nostril Klingons and house of horror Turbolifts. This is a non issue and he does not look too old (by Hollywood standards anyways) to be playing 11 years younger...
Exactly. Doug Wert was born in 1961. When he appeared as Jack in "Family" in 1990, he'd have been 29. Since that recording was made around when Wesley was born in 2349 or so, it means Jack would have been born in the late 2310s! How can he possibly have gone to the Academy with Picard?????!!!!!!!
Seriously though, Picard's suggesting 23/24 wasn't directly confirmed by Jack, and even if it was, Jack could have any number of reasons for not making a big deal about his exact age. Especially when he had a couple hours left to live, and was having his only chance to talk to his father, and oh no what if pops got his age wrong? How could Jack live with such a discrepancy?
Well the actor who plays Jack Crusher is 34 and damn if he don't look it. So that was some rough 23 years.
