I think the ticking clock for Pike is what gives the character beauty. How he has come to terms with it. We know his future is not how he envisions it now. That's one of the aspects of the show I love. We know what happens to some of these people and part of the fun, part of what makes watching so rich, is seeing how they get there. But I've enjoyed every iteration of Trek for the most part. I can suspend disbelief (or more accurately, suspend slavish attachment to continuity) in order to embrace all this abundance. Having watched the very first episode of Star Trek when it aired I'm kind of giddy sometimes at how much there is.
That being said, I think if they bring in Leila Kalomi she should be played by a Polynesian or Hawaiian actor.

Indeed. It makes me wonder if the "Early Voyages" (if that was the name of the comic) readers were simiarly disappointed in the stories because of Pike's eventual fate?

I also want Pike, knowing he can't die until after his accident, he gets more and more reckless and unhinged like an inverted Final Destination. This eventually gets him grounded, leading to the accident...

Ooh, that's kind of a cool idea! I mean the Pike getting grounded thing. Although, I think Spock is going to ruin his own damned marriage (Christine likely involved - it explains so much about how awkward they are with each other in the future).
I wasn't and I loved that comic book. I think him knowing his future is very interesting. I do think though if they established he could cheat it due to the show no being in the Prime universe that would be great as well. The idea being is he might be able to change it or he might not. Could go either way. We the audience are then on the edge of our seats when the show gets close to that moment knowing it could go either way.
Pike’s injuries from the accident are actually reversible, but at a cost (ex. a memory wipe of the previous 10-30 years).
T’Pring pushes Chapel to be with Spock over Chapel’s objections, which allows T’Pring to be with Stonn. Which Spock consents to. And Una later fills in for Chapel after Chapel comes to her for counsel and Una becomes involved with Spock in her place, in a followup to the "Q&A" Short Trek.
Sarek and Amanda Grayson more preoccupied and involved in the life of Sybok and the loss of Michael Burnham than whatever Spock is doing. While keeping an eye on T'Pring in the process.
If we are showing alternate futures like “A Quality of Mercy”, then show Pike checking up on Khan and his Augments on Ceti Alpha V. Or a retelling of “The Counter-Clock Incident”, but with Pike as captain instead of Kirk. Or Pike, Una, Uhura, & M’Benga are at the launch of Ent-B and Pike either lets the Ent-B captain sacrifice himself, or Pike himself is caught in the Nexus and eventually emerges in an alternate 25th or 31st/32nd century. Maybe make that the Quality of Mercy timeline. And he brought back Lynne Lucero to be his science officer in this timeline to fill in for Spock after the events of A Quality of Mercy.
Erica Ortegas’s brother is Jose Tyler.
Colt from DIS S2 reappears and is the same J.M. Colt from The Cage. And there is an explanation for the radical change in appearance.
Boyce appears, and is a lot less racist towards the Orions than in The Cage.
Ortegas and Jenna both show signs of being like Stiles (and it needs not be trauma related to the Romulan war, as their was a Klingon war not that long ago in-universe circa DIS S1). But they also show signs of being like Sulu, in there being potential to be future captain, or interest in the sciences, possibly transferring to the science division. Borrow from the Kelvin comics and maybe one of them has a sibling that’s in Section 31.

You could easily substitute "1987" and have it be just as applicable, TNG rejected or retconned more of TOS than it kept.
TNG was a natural extension of TOS and the TOS movies, 80 years later. It flowed together pretty well. TOS was the wild, west. TNG evolved to a more refined era, the Enterprise like a giant Marriott Resort in space.
Always enjoyed the scene of Scotty and Picard on the 1701 bridge.
TNG flowed naturally from TMP.
It did not with TOS. It stood at odds with the stilted dialogue, the strange posture on the bridge, the artificial way conflict was handled.
